Mourinho opens talks with England!!!!

Apparently the word on the grapevine over the past few days has been that he wouldn't turn down a serious offer from England.

Now he's talking to the FA!

I have my doubts over whether he's right for the England side but at least he'll be entertaining! Then again, after McClaren, Sven and Peter Taylor, a dead rat would be entertaining.

Just mentioned this on the EPL thread but deserves its own thread.

Not sure Mourinho is your man if you're looking for 'entertainment' on the pitch.

andy townsend made the point that chelsea at their best under JM played the kind of football that would suit england - high tempo and pacy. it would be a coup to get a coach of that calibre. the only danger being that he may get bored and leave half way through a campaign.

It would appeal to his ego, but I really can't see him taking the job.

There's going to be vacancies at Liverpool, Milan, probably Barcelona and Real Madrid (they're always chopping and changing) between now and the end of the season, and he'll be top of everyone's wish list.

Come the end of the European Championships, Big Phil's contract will be up as coach of Portugal.

If he's that interested in international management (which he's said he isn't at this stage in his career), then he'll hang on for the Portugal job.

I'm not sure he'd leave half way through a campaign from boredom. He wouldn't get a payoff and he might have trouble getting work in England again.

Don't know why you think he would anyway. He was pushed out of Chelsea, he didn't walk.

You don't win 2 premierships with just "long ball hoofing". His team was disciplined, tactically sound, competitive, at times very attractive, and best of all - class. All the things England need. Still not sure he's right though.

Time will tell.

You're only as good as the players you've got.

And he can't buy anyone as England coach.

Kind of explains why Brazil are always the best. 95 players plying their trade at Champions League clubs in Europe.

Throw in a few decent players like Elano who are in Europe but not in Europe and the whole of their domestic league, and Brazil have got fricking millions of top-notch talent to choose from.

How hard can it be to get a few Brazilians doing a KP and playing for England? Sure a few bridges were burnt with Charles De Menezes but generally we tend not to shoot them and we've got plenty of cash.

We got Jewell in the end. Not too bad. Was hoping for Mourinho though.

Sound reasoning. Lots of good footballers would happily be millionaires pretending to be English rather than getting shot in the flavellas.

I remember when Edu played for Arsenal, he was talking up the possibility of becoming an Englishman when he qualified through residency.

But then Brazil went and blew that plan out of the water by picking him. Cheats.
