Is Ian Bell England's best batsman?
I'm a little bit drunk, but watching highlights of the ashes- F*ck he played well. Almost every shot he played in anger was a 'wow' shot, you know, the kind of shots where the crowd as one all goes "ooooorrrrr", or "shoooooot".
Technically, he's our best player. And he's shown of late that he'll make the tough runs. Is he our best?

In terms of natural talent and technical correctness, quite possibly. In terms of overall effectiveness and imposing himself on a game when it matters, things have improved but still a way to go.

To be fair, he hasn't been given much of a chance in this rain hit series.
We'll find out if he's "England's Best batsman" against India.

There's no doubting the improvement in both technique and form by the little Warks sneerer. He's doing justice to the poster Zoggy has on his ceiling to fap over.

Re: Is Ian Bell England's best batsman?
Doesn't play the short ball well. So "technically" he's far from being the best player.
Re: Is Ian Bell England's best batsman?
Is he our best batsman?
Let's mull this one over, eh?
Is he the batsman most in form? No. He's not. Cook is. Followed by Trott.
Is he our most resolute batsman? No. That's Trott. Followed by Cook.
Is he our most dominant batsman? No. That's Pietersen.
Has he won us the most matches as a batsman? No. That's Pietersen, Cook, Trott, Strauss. Basically everyone in the top six barring the newbie.
He's improved. Don't get me wrong. Please. Don't. But, for me, he's probably had two series of note in his career - SA '09/10 and Aus 10/11. He was still shying the new ball in SA, he was lucky to get his ton in Aus and got a lot of his runs against a demoralised attack that had been crushed by Cook and Trott.
Given what I've just said, I'm afraid the answer's an unequivocal no from me...

Not the best, but as others indicate, generally seems worth his place nowadays.

He is England's NLWL. Not the best batsmen in the team but one of those players whose presence improves the game.
Of course all the Pommy detractors having to suck up their past condemnation is just gold.

A wicket for Bell.
At around the 36/37 second mark his fingers are clearly off the ball ...and the ball is on the ground ...

Must appear like that due to due to the foreshortening from a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional situation.
Otherwise Beefy was full of crap, or at least a hypocrite of the highest order when he called Phil Hughes a cheat at the SCG in January.

This is the 2nd most p!ssweak excuse trotted out by the officials for numerous blatant injustices on a cricket field, right up there with "Murali has a bent elbow from a birth defect."Zat wrote:Must appear like that due to due to the foreshortening from a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional situation.
