In April 1982, Ignatius Jones issued his debut solo single, "Like a Ghost", which was written by The Church's frontman Steve Kilbey.[9] Jones' second single, "Whispering Your Name", appeared in March 1983. Both singles were "hot dance club favourites among the gay community

He speaks the truth on this occasion though. Apparently Mr Jones was director of the Mardi Gras for a couple of decades after a fairly brief and largely unsuccessful flirtation with pop music (Jimmy and the Boys). Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I admit to being v puzzled when you called him an ‘icon’ the other day. Iggy Pop yes, Iggy Jones no. You didn’t get their names confused did you?

Gotta admit neither of the Igmeisters is exactly a towering figure in my musical development. Jones and the much more memorably named Joylene Hairmouth were a five minute novelty punk send-up act, albeit basically harmless, and as for Mister Pop, besides composing the anthem of the ADD Generation and showing up on Countdown bombed out of his brain, wtf????

Wow, didn't expect such judgement from you, Mr bucket.
Jimmy and the Boys were big in the late 70s/early 80s in my formative musical years. I saw them in pub gigs and they were a great band.
If his later career is somehow relective of his private life, that was his business. At that age I made absolutely no judgment about anyone's sensuality.
I hope the Uber driver's daughter doesn't turn out gay, because her life will be a nightmare with Captain Feeble Follicles.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXXIV/The Death Thread 2024
No need for that, SGDT v SGWT (see glossary).
Iggy Pop was a bit more than a shirtless Countdown nuisance; he certainly scared the horses and Molly. Good voice, probably most accessible on ‘Candy’ (where he is helped by an iconic, unmistakeable B52 voice … and Lust for Life still stands up pretty well after all these years. Not a favourite of mine by any means, but his influence on the musical generation just below me is undeniable.

Mate, I was commenting on a great time of my life. You don't like much of my musical taste and vice versa.
I never pas judgement on your likes and and dislikes, I'd appreciate the same.
I have privately told MB that his constant "gay" line was getting very old so politely asked him to cease He was like Nigel - I could expect a daily serve from him.
He has chosen to continue, so I will return fire how I see fit. He can stop any time he wants.

I had forgotten who Ignatius Jones was and I looked up Wikipedia
I joined the dots on a long standing line of communication ...ie you write something that can be construed as gay and I point it out
Nigel will be happy to know he is still living rent free in your head

I think this can be safely filed away as The Ignatius Jones Incident.

RIP David Sanborn, aged 78, saxophonist to the stars (including Stevie Wonder, Bowie, Stones, Springsteen, Elton, Aretha - the sax solo in 'Young Americans' is his).
He had been suffering from the dreaded pancreatic cancer since 2018, but had still been performing regularly and had gigs booked up to mid-2025.
