I'm all for Chanders, been giving him accolades l, r & c... but to do what he did today wasn't right by any stretch.
Re: England v West Indies, 1st Test, Lords, 17-21 May, 2012
Aye he should have got out wafting waftily for 20-40, like all his other mates that got to 20-40.

Well, we'll have to disagree that running a partner out by selling him down the river and letting one of the worst number 10s in world cricket have the last five balls of the day is a good thing. He's 37 - old enough for responibility like those two pieces of play. But yes, he played pretty marvellously in between.
Re: England v West Indies, 1st Test, Lords, 17-21 May, 2012
Danny, I wouldn't support either of the positions that you have me espousing.
Firstly, I haven't seen the run-out; I just read the cricinfo commentary, which suggested that Chanderpaul was never interested in the run and that Bravo over-committed. Maybe they have described it wrongly. In any case, they do have far too many of those disasters. It's as if their top order has been Watsonised.
Did he have an opportunity to get on strike for the last over?

Danny,
Are you farking kidding? Chanders did nothing of the sort that you suggest in that run out. He was not to blame at all. Bravo just bolted for the other end. At worst Shiv ran two meters then retreated.

let's face it, Gatting is lucky. He had a bog ordinairy career on and off the pitch. Yet he has gone down in history for one event where his role was to play Simple Simon the pieman and have that priceless look of abject incomprehension on his face...and even the TGM ball involved was named after him

It was a tight single and it was Bravo's call and Bravo was going to the danger end. If Shiv didn't want the run he should have at least shouted no quickly. Instead he took a couple steps down the wicket which made it even worse for Bravo. In the end younger batsmen have to know that Shiv does not take quick singles so if you're batting with him stay in your crease if the run is tight. To me Shiv has been involved in far too many run outs. The one yesterday reminded me of this run out involving Runako Morton with Chanderpaul trying to get back to his crease before his partner reaches there.

Windies seemed to fall in a heap after a solid start.

Re Chandercrab - you don't score 10,000 runs batting at 5 or 6 without being able to bat with the tail. Particularly playing for the modern Windies.

They are obviously missing your guidance.

He had the strike for the last over, first ball he takes a single. That's after taking a single early in the previous over. Terrible selfishness.

He ran a couple of yards, which was plenty enough to give Bravo the 'OK' - whilst ball-watching then meandred back when Bravo was halfway down the pitch - Bravo put his head down and pelted it. Bravo was running to the danger end. Shiv was only thinking of himself. If we're talking fault then it's 90% Chanders, 10% Bravo. A damning indictment is the stat I posted from Cricinfo - 23 run-outs, only 3 times he's been out.

You obviously never saw him look dumbfounded in an interview about going on a rebel tour to SA - "I don't know anything about Apartheid, I'm just here to play cricket" Bloke's a qunt.

Another overcast but fine day by the looks of it. Should get a full day in.

So basically taking a single off the first ball of the last over of the day has cost WI 2 wickets.

Hehe.
Still going on the opening partnership, that's a good sign.

Er, looks a bit grim for the Ganjas. Straws and Chef looking like they can ghost past the Windies total on their own.
