Big belly thread...
Recently there hasn't been much cricket on TV so i have been spending quite a lot of time in the gym....
Long story short despite all the time in the gym my belly is big and was embarrassed to see myself in the mirror today. Amazingly there are a few girls who actually LIKE guys with slightly large stomachs but i personally would like to have a FLAT belly.
I suppose the reason why i am not losing as much weight as i should is because of the diet so any suggestions regarding that?

geebers...I lost sight of my feet years ago and have no idea where they wandered off too...that said you could try a diet of nursing home food - it will keep you are alive and you will not look like a fat capitalist roader

PP - if you're serious, I'd cut out wheat. You wouldn't believe the weight it keeps on.
It's a shit diet, admittedly... no bread, pizza, pasta, cakes, pastries etc. but it will work a damned treat - I promise you.

A life with no carbs is not worth living IMHO, but Dan's right. Drop the carbohydrates and the weight will melt off quickly. Beer and wine are also high in carbs.

Just wheat. Eat potatoes, rice etc. There's something in it that's very 'weighty'.
Re: Big belly thread...
So why did God invent wheat?

Not for humans, 'apparently'. We've only sporadically had it on our diet for the last 10,000 years, which isn't alot in the grand scheme of things.

cut out simple carbs (white bread, polished rice, cakes, etc). substitute with more complex carbs (whole wheat products, veggies, etc). no artificial drinks or even canned juices/gatorade etc. stick to water as much as you can
have your last meal at least 2-3 hours before sleeping. eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 2-3 large ones
hit the gym and lift heavy weights (under guidance of course). increased muscle mass = higher calorie burn even when you are resting. do short intensive bursts of cardio instead of long steady ones. burpees, tabata, etc instead of jogging on the treadmill for 40 minutes

NO!!!
Don't eat any carbs at all. Don't even eat things like fruit. It might be "good" sugar but it's all carbs. They're evil. I lost 7 stones by just eating things like fish, mayonnaise and green salad and veg. Don't eat things that say, "low fat" on them either cos they all contain more carbs than the full fat versions. It's a lovely diet. And don't listen to people who say it's bad for you. Dr Atkins didn't die from heart disease. He fell and died from complications. My cholesterol level is really low and so is my blood pressure. Highly recommended.

Re: Big belly thread...
Carbohydrates are not evil.
Carbohydrates coming from sugar are high on the GI index, and generally get absorbed into the bloodstream very quickly where they CAN, if they are not BURNED OFF, turn into fat. Carbohydrates are essentially used as fuel, your body cannot work without them, and cutting out all carbs is just plain insanity.
Carbs coming from oats, rices, etc., rate low on the GI scale and are absorbed slowly, hence they're burned off at a steady rate when the body requires them. A healthy way to lose weight is to operate on a calorific deficit, consume complex carbohydrates such as those from oat sources, rather than from wheats and sugars. If you want to cut out carbohydrates then cut them out after 6pm, when your body is most likely simply to store them and turn them into fats.
You have to realise though that before, during and straight after working out, your body will need carbohydrates. If you're going to the gym to get stronger, you will need protein AND carbs, probably on a 1:2 ratio (depending on your metabolism, probably 30g of protein to 60g of carbs) straight after. These need to be simple carbs, like glucose or maltodextrin.
This idea that carbs are evil is utter sh*t. Carbohydrates are necessary, and should be the biggest part of your diet. You should consume more carbs than protein, more protein than fat. Your metabolism dictates how much of each.
FYI - sugars from fruit tend to rate low on the GI index. Fruit is one of the best things for you in the entire world and should never be shunned.
