Yuvraj cleared of dissent
http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/ausvind/content/current/story/328032.html
After considering the evidence, match referee Mike Procter decided Yuvraj had not stood his ground in protest. "It was evident that Yuvraj took more time than normal to leave the crease but it was due to the fact that he was shocked at the decision," Proctor said. "At no stage he showed displeasure or dissent at the umpire's decision."
LOL. What the f*ck is Procter on about. Basically saying,"He showed dissent, but he didn't."

Re: Yuvraj cleared of dissent
I'm not exactly sure Proctor is the right person to be decide what counts as dissent or not. This is an extract from Simon Hughes' book talking about playing against Proctor (by now bowling spin) in SA State cricket:
Proctor still brought a fast bowler's fire and brimstone to this subtler art.
I stood at the non-striker's end as he rapped a batsman on the pad with an off break.
'HOWZAAAAT!' he yelled.
'That's not out,' said the umpire.
'Why not?' Proctor declared, wheeling round to glare at the official.
'...Er, well, I don't know really,' replied the agitated umpire.
'Well why don't you give it out then?' demanded Proctor. Which the beleagured official duly did. In his next over exactly the same thing happened.
'HOWZAATONETHEN?!' cried Proctor again.
'That's not out.'
'Why not?'
'It was the same as the last one.'
'But you gave the previous one out.'
'So I did. That's out!'
And they say star players don't influence umpires.
Re: Yuvraj cleared of dissent
I can live with this decision is that is now the standard as to what constitutes dissent.

Bollocks. He should have been fined, it was clear as can be.
And nowt about 'subi pressure', please unless you can prove it.

Symonds was cleared of dissent, while Gilly was fined in Lanka by the man. Long arm of 'subi pressure' right there.

Pah, I don't see what the fuss is all about. when Lara forcibly snatched the ball away from the Umpire in a test against India, he didn't even get a polite verbal warning. Mcgrath spouted excessive verbal shite at every batsman he ever bowled too and nothing happened. I say give players bonus runs for sledging and dissent and add the runs to the extras column.

I missed this first time around, quite frankly it's laughable there is no possible way he could have been cleared based on the footage i watched.
The fact that snicko showed he hit the damn thing just makes him look an even bigger tool.

It wasn't dissent, just disappointment . . .

the snicko showed the bat hitting his foot before he reached out towards the ball.

Chunnel 9 is a completely biased, racist commentary team with a bunch of yahoos feeding its viewers with plenty of bull to cater to aussie standards of viewership.
that's all I gotta say at this point.

Re: Yuvraj cleared of dissent
Yuvraj stood incredulous and lingered after his second innings dismissal today as well. It's almost as though he thought himself above dismissal by a) being caught behind after smacking the cover off the ball or b) being caught plumb lbw by a straight flipper.
Not impressed by his display in this game. His attitude is wrong.

We have kind of the Watson schemozzle in reverse with Yuvraj. Apparently Dravid was shunted into the opening position specifically to make roon for him. It denuded the value from both spots.

Good point Nerky - it's not as if Yuvraj is the next Tendulkar. He is a serviceable test player at best and the Indians are sacrificing one of sport's best ever No 3s to make room for him.

He was here last time and his contribution wasn't what anybody would call stellar. If not for all those rumors that he was Lags's cousin he'd barely be remembered at all.

Re: Yuvraj cleared of dissent
Ganguly did something strange today as well, just noticed watching the highlights then and before the ump gave him out off hogg he started shaking his head as if to say he didn't hit it...only issue was he was plumb lbw first and then he did clearly hit the ball after it hit the pad.
So he's out twice and he's also shaking his head?

He'll never be cleared of being a crap, over-rated, sub-continent flat-track bully who has made an inflated reputation on the basis of slogging in ODIs and Twenty20s though.
Apparently, he's better than Pietersen too.

Re: Yuvraj cleared of dissent
Maybe Procter is simply redressing the balance which, up until now, has allowed bowlers to stand mid-pitch, hands on hips, shaking head and swearing when a decision goes against them but fining batsmen for pausing at the crease for 5 seconds or shaking their head on the way back to the pavillion.
Having said that Yuvraj had no business complaining. Snicko and slow motion suggested that it was a fine edge and he must have known that he had got a thick edge when given 'not out' the previous over.
The pressures on modern cricketers are huge. Being given out cheaply is not just a poor contribution to the teams innings, it is potentially the end of a lucrative career.
