Pakistan's off-spinner cleared to resume bowling in international cricket immediately after all deliveries cleared by ICC

Saeed Ajmal could yet make an appearance at the ICC Cricket World Cup after the off-spinner's remodelled action was found to be legal by official re-testing in Chennai.

The International Cricket Council today confirmed Ajmal and Bangladesh off-spinner Sohag Gazi had both been cleared to resume bowling in international cricket immediately with all deliveries tested within the 15-degree level of elbow extension permitted.

But at least it appears that elite umpires are more vigilante these days and are reporting dodgy stuff more regularly. Ajmal will need to be careful.

He's had months and months of remedial action - fair enough, I'd say. As skully says, they're likely to be much more watchful of his action in a match situation now.

He might yet feature in the World Cup apparently, and he's still very much on Pears' radar.

I don't see how he can feature unless another Pakistani suffers an "injury"

If they are legal, then fair enough. Although, wonder if the legal version will be anywhere near as effective as the full chuck.

No way, Jose. It's why they chuck. They get a massive unfair advantage, particularly enabling the doosra.

I played with a bloke who was an expert at pinging balls in the nets from half pitch distance (because he wasn't very accurate from 22 yards with these deliveries). He would stand and flick balls at us, making them spin both ways depending on the placement of his fingers. There was no way he could bowl such delivers, as he needed the full bent arm flick to have the back of his hand pointing down the wicket, palm facing him and releasing over the top of his fingers. Dunno if I explained that very well, but he taught me how to do it, and I could stand and flick the ball and make it jag both ways, throw-down style.

Murali did it for his whole career and Ajmal does it too. It's the only way they can/could bowl the doosra.

Bobby Simpson demonstrated the 'potential' of this this same 'art' about 20 years ago. It's why chucking spinners are a massive problem. Muralitharan varied his chucking intensity according to the match situation. While capable of bowling perfectly legally under scrutiny, he was also able to throw with impunity when required.

And everyone knows it.

It's been sugar-coated for way too long. He was a disgraceful cheat; a blight on the game only rivalled by the threat of match-fixing.

True. Better thought would be whether he'd still be decent.
