The small crowds are due to the scheduling. With such an elongated fixture, surely they could have banked up a few matches so they could have played the semis and finals on Friday night and the weekend. Many people rang in tonight and said they wanted to go but the kids had school in the morning. A few people who went to last night's match said it was almost all adults which is a shame given CA is marketing strongly towards hooking in the new generations of fans.
nup, Winter Olympics are more important

Re: Big Bash Thread
The man who knocked out the star-studded Sydney Sixers, Craig Simmons, has provided the latest fairytale story of a club cricketer who has hit the big time through the Big Bash League.
By day the 31-year-old is an apprentice lineworker who fixes power lines but by night he swaps his fluorescent safety vest for the orange of the Perth Scorchers to short-circuit bowling attacks with his electrifying hitting.
The Sixers, with an attack containing former Test star Brett Lee and young guns Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, were the latest to feel his wrath.
Simmons, who scored the fastest century in the short history of the BBL three weeks ago, proved he was no one-hit wonder by peeling off another ton, this time bettering his previous best of 102 with a ruthless 112 off 58 balls.

Should he overcome a groin strain he picked up during his whirlwind innings, he will take his place in the Scorchers' line-up in Friday night's final against the Hobart Hurricanes.
"[I'm] worried but it'll take a bit more than a strain to keep me off the park on Friday," Simmons said.
Regardless of the result on Friday, Simmons, who has entered the Indian Premier League player auction as a potential bargain-basement buy, will have one helluva of a story for his workmates at Western Power when he turns up for work next week.
"I started that a couple of years ago and really enjoying it but cricket's changed things at the moment," Simmons said.
"If things go to plan I can get back to work on Monday and get on with life again.
"It's been pretty tough [juggling work and cricket] over the last month. My work, Western Power, have been pretty good, giving me a fair bit of time off. I'm enjoying work and if I can balance it with cricket it's great."
Simmons is the latest semi-professional to burst into the limelight via Cricket Australia's domestic Twenty20 competition.
The inaugural staging of the revamped city-based competition in 2011-12 provided the big break for Nathan Lyon, who went from an Adelaide Oval greenkeeper to wearing the baggy green in the space of eight months.
In the same season, Sydney school teacher Ian Moran played in the Sixers' BBL-winning side then toured South Africa with the SCG-based team when they conquered the world in the Champions League in 2012.
Born in Paddington, a neighbouring suburb to the SCG, Simmons moved to Perth as a 10-year-old as his father had to relocate for his job in the navy.
As a junior, he played in Australia's Under 19s World Cup victory in 2002 against a South African side containing Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla.
Simmons' career, however, has failed to reach the dizzying heights of that pair or, for that matter, the levels reached by some of his teammates that day - George Bailey, Cameron White, Shaun Marsh, Xavier Doherty and Beau Casson, who have all played at Test level.
Simmons made his first-class debut for Western Australia in late 2003 but has managed only six games since at that level, the last nearly two years ago, for a highest score of 60.
Sixers captain Marcus North, who is based in WA, said Simmons was an example of a player who had seized an opportunity in the BBL.
"I've always felt as you can see he's just got that natural hitting ability and that natural talent," North said.
"I think domestically he's shone more in one-day cricket than Shield cricket ... but sometimes that's the journey of some guys, they just can't quite crack into that first class scene and be consistent.
"But credit to him he's been out of a first-class contract for a while now and been grafting away back in the west and playing club cricket and doing well at club cricket.
"The game is all about opportunity and he's got one and he's taken it. He's a guy that had nothing to lose and had to fight. Wish he didn't do it here."

Both Hurricanes imports have gone home. No great loss though. Owais Shah was dropped in the last two games for shyte performances & Malik has only been average with the ball & crap with the bat. "Canes have got enough talent to cover them.

Well he has to take anything he can get, even if it's cricket for those with ADHD.

Pity Hobart can't field a full strength side with Laughlin & Malik missing but they still should be more than competative.
