So Gladys calls a State of Emergency re the fires. No mention of course about how her govt took $40m from the Fire Services budget last year.

You'd think they'd ringfence certain line items legislatively.

central agencies would never agree to that.
Fire services are reasonable at saving people, houses, back burning but not so good out putting bush fires out once they have got hold and the weather is foul. It is weather change that does the job.
Governments are good at PR management of fires. Pollies out and about in shelters, talking to firies, standing in front of new equipment all on camera. The media colludes. It is all about being calm and telling people when to get the ****** out.

Aye. First cab off the rank would be to ignor the Greens when they oppose fuel reduction burns.
Re: bushfire and weather thread
Yup. And make people looking for a tree change cut back the trees around the house. If you want to hug them you can walk a couple of hundred yards.

Apparently* there will be no rainfall on the Australian mainland today (Monday).
That's an entire continent FFS.

And aren't the chicken little greenies having a field day. Adam Bandt was waving his dick about in parliament house today blaming the current government for the fires due to their "inaction on climate change". FFS and FMD.
I bet the greens are taking no "credit" for basically banning hazard reduction burning across Aus.

Well wide scale land clearing since White settlement hasn't helped (yeah I know but nothing so virtuous as a reformed whore) but the Greenies are drawing a long now blaming the current govt for that.
It's a long term fix and no govt has the balls esp with so many vested interests.

And long term fixes just aren't in any Govt's sights. 2 years in and all govts are looking to the next election. Fark long term policy. Just look at the LNP's energy policy that doesn't exist. They are paralysed in between action and election prospects.
It's why you have to let hooman beans mimic nature as best we can. Back burn like nature normally would.
In a trip to the Territory a few years back I noted and witnessed burn offs were common place. But in the "civilised" south east, the councils run by Greens (how the fark does this happen???) will not allow the burn offs. Hence bushfire hell awaits.

Re: bushfire and weather thread
Yeah no catastrophic bushfires north of the tweed and east of the WA/NT border. I think most of the bad ones in WA were in the south, could be wrong.
Actually a bushfire in western Qld burnt out a couple of million hectares in 2012, but only moocs and some bank balances were harmed.

Harsh but fair. Nothing's a priority until it threatens the movers and shakers in their own backyard. Literally in this case.

Looked grim in Northern Sydney this arvo with dark, ominous clouds of smoke on the horizon, but mercifully nothing serious eventuated (touch wood).

Yeah, a decent fire in South Turramurra and a brief one in North Turramurra before the skycrane dumped a load of retardant to snuff it quickly. Thank God for the Firies.

Re: bushfire and weather thread
What a tool.
"Sacked rugby union star Israel Folau says the bushfires that have devastated the country and claimed six lives are God's way of punishing Australia for legalising abortion and same-sex marriage.
Dumped by Rugby Australia after claiming on social media that homosexuals and other sinners will go to hell unless they repent, Folau has doubled down on the comments in a video posted to the Truth of Jesus Christ Church Sydney.
"I've been looking around at the events that's been happening in Australia, this past couple of weeks, with all the natural disasters, the bushfires and the droughts," he says in the clip.
He then reads from Isaiah's bible verse titled The Lord's devastation of the Earth.
"The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth's inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left."
Folau goes on to link the passage to the bushfire disaster and the legalising of same-sex marriage and abortion.
"The events that have happened here in Australia, in the last couple of years - God's word says for a man and a woman to be together ... they've come and changed this law," he said."

Arse clown god botherer.

Whilst a person is entitled to their opinion , fire doesn't discriminate who it impacts on.
Sadly reports of 420 homes now being lost to the fires in NSW.
