Another Saturday, another cricket match ruined by overnight rain ... though the sun is poking out again now and might permit a delayed start.

Fires, floods and pestilence ... ideological battles ... this thread was a golden re-read.

RIP BD and Braddles.

Well, East Aus mainland is heading into an El Nino, so we would be happy for a rained out Satdy cricket day.

Cairns has dodged a bullet … Jasper was wet but less windy than anticipated; buildings still standing

Phhhhurttttt.

I can remember the road melting in my teens, it was so hot. I remember playing cricket in 43C heat and seeing stars. I have called off more than one game of golf as the mercury climbed past 43C.

Kids of today have no farkin idea.

More nasty fires northeast of Perth today.

Meanwhile there are a lot of new Island communities in the beachside suburbs just North of Cairns …

Nawsty.

Eldest sprog was due to be in Cairns last Satdy to meet a friend from Holland, but on calling the resort booked, they said "Nah, don't come, it's a shitfight up here."

Wise advice (no money lost).

10 deaths (drownings, fallen trees) with this Xmas deluge. Seven in Queensland alone.

The Xmas Day storms around Brisbane were extraordinary though ... on Xmas night I was reduced to driving at 70 kph in horrendous blinding rain, amid frequent lightning strikes and even more frequent brief episodes of near daylight (actual strike not visible) on the M3 (Brisbane to Coolangatta), having left the Brisbane Valley under blue skies before being caught in the storm ... once on the freeway, very poor vision with no safe place to pull over, and many other drivers not being so careful. I was very relieved (though exhausted) to get back to our Gold Coast accommodation later in the evening. The Boxing Day storm was not nearly so ferocious.
