Badly needed new law in cricket... Empty Badly needed new law in cricket...

Post by mynah Sun 06 Jan 2008, 20:23

Considering the latest incident, it is high time the ICC lay down rules as far as sledging is concerned. We all know that "monkey" is unacceptable if the receiver is of African origin - but how about other terms insulting whites, Asians, Muslims, Christians, etc.?

A category largely neglected up till now is that of sexist remarks. Surely if insulting members of an ethnic group is unacceptible, so should be sexist sledging involving the player's female relatives and any body parts that may belong to them? Should gay players, as members of an often persecuted minority, be granted special protection against bowlers mentioning the ins and outs of their personal pursuits?

Perhaps the ICC could clarify the matter by incorporating separate lists of acceptable and unacceptable terms in the laws of cricket. If nothing else, it would ensure that more people will actually read the rulebook before declaring themselves experts... Laughing

Is it still ok for a bowler to ask a batsman "how does <insert player name here>'s d!ck taste?"

Considering how all international matches have players enquiring about mothers and sisters, I think this is fair dinkum.

Not to mention ones familiar with every racial, sexual or other abusive slang term in each. The ICC could consider bringing out, along with a modest-sized umpire's handbook, an expletive dictionary the size of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica. (Should be a hit with the public, too...)
