Would you pursue it if approaches indicated you were highly regarded enough to make the step? Or is the process more complicated than that?
Personally, my back wouldn't allow me to stand upright for 6 hours 4 days straight.
Can you even give someone out anymore anyway?

Hehehe. I was a qualified umpire at District Grade level back in the day. I was a left-handed gunner.

Re: 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier
Only in my own A-Grade comp. In seasons when we had byes &/or Sunday games, the bye/non-playing team used to have to supply one official umpire for each of the other A-Grade games in what used to be called the North Sydney District Cricket Association. As a result plenty of us were sent off to get umpiring certificates. I was happy to go.

Re: 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier
So there you go...
IN Group A: Scotland are about to give Canada a huge thumping. The match between HK and UAE is ongoing but both of those teams will qualify regardless of the result (assuming Scotland does indeed beat Canada.
So HK, UAE and Scotland through to Super Sixes.
From Group B: the following go through
PNG 6
Namibia 6
Kenya 4
I thought Kenya was gone for all money but they just pulled off a big win over the Netherlands, brought up the required in 35 overs, giving them a better runrate than the Netherlands who, thusly, are eliminated.
Kenya has no wins against either of the other teams in SS so they are probably going to have to win all of their matches (Scotland, UAE and HK) to qualify.

UAE ultimately beat HK.
Four teams have one win over another SS team (HK, UAE, Scotland, Namibia).
PNG have two wins, and Kenya have none.

Re: 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier
UAE (easy win v PNG) and Scotland (tighter win v Namibia) away to strong starts in Super Sixes stage. Kenya also won but having carried no points to Super Sixes, so will find it impossible to reach the Final between the 2 highest placed Super Six sides.

Re: 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier
Still one round of matches left to play but sadly the dream is already over for Kenya and Namibia.
On Thursday the last matches that matter will be played: Nam v UAE, Ken v Scot, PNG v HK.
Current points and NRR table
United Arab Emirates +0.742 6
Scotland +0.612 6
Hong Kong +0.312 4
Papua New Guinea –0.253 4
Kenya –0.230 2
Namibia –1.113 2
Wouldn't personally mind seeing HK or PNG get up. New faces.
Obv, for that to happen, either Kenya or Namibia will have to win their final match, AND the winner of the HK/PNG match will have to have a good enough RR to get second spot.

UAE and Scotland march on (odds on that they'll play the Final), with HK a possible smokey.

Is it just the top 2 that get through?
Or just the winner?

Top 2 play the Final. I was under the impression both go through (not 100% sure).
