Re: ICC Test Player Ratings
New player rankings are interesting. Warner is a scrot away from No 2. rhino is no 2.

Wow!! Still, having just Warner & Pup in top 10 batsmen shows the fragility of our top 7. Smithy may get in there soon (he's at 12). And if Patto can roar up the list (currently 28th) & Midge and Rhino maintain form, we may just have some justification to claim competition with SAf for the "best attack in the world".

The think that Warner is a half century away from being the No 2 ranked batsman in the world.

I'm going go out on a limb here and say that's a pretty decent bowling attack. You've got all bases covered, pace, swing, bounce, accuracy, right-arm/left-arm variation, spin, moustaches and racial quotas.
Some lower order batting ability there too.
Usually the rankings are a mishmash of Johnny Fly-by-nights and statistical quirks, but that's a more than fair representation of the current world of bowling.
Re: ICC Test Player Ratings
You've also got the high degree of extension representative.

Thought Sturat might be somewhere near the top 10 on the bowling list, but he's about the only one - as no batsman could average much above 25 in the Ashes they all deserve to be ranked alongside Bangladeshi bits-and-pieces all-rounders.

Am I the only one even slightly concerned that, acc to those rankings, there are less than 100 people in the world that can bowl better than Steve Smith?

Or that Chris Tremlett is holding steady at 33 in spite of playing only one Test in the last three years.
Re: ICC Test Player Ratings
I missed that one Dello.
I think it was some time in 2011 that Brad Hodge's name turned up somewhere in the 50s or 60s on the batting list, when he hadn't played Test cricket for five years except one match in the Windies in 2008.

Re: ICC Test Player Ratings
I don't think it's like the tennis rankings where you lose the lot on the 366th day after winning a tournament, so your numbers in the second last year still count for something, but that Hilf ranking is still a bit odd. Likewise Trembles.

Shame. Some may say Warner would be the most appropriate No 2 in sport since Andrew Jarman.

Jarvis 46th, he's retired.
Steve Finn is 24th and he can't even bowl. Yet he's still ahead of Ishant Sharma. I guess they're not completely shite then.
