Next real cricket
T1 WI v NZ 8-12 June and T1 Eng v SL 12-16 June.
Some one day palaver before then.

And the IPL kicks off in a week. Because after the T20 World Cup, we're all craving a six-week-long T20 domestic tournament.

I know Skully it's frustrating having nothing but the pyjama circuses to give us our fill of cricket.

Re: Next real cricket
We don't need real cricket all the time. A break is good. A couple of months without test cricket & we will all enjoy it even more when it resumes.
And besides. If we want quality sport, there is NRL, AFL, EPL, La Liga, Golf & Ultimate Surrender.

Re: Next real cricket
It is a long run of nothing but McCricket... at least the end of the football season means there's plenty of good stuff to watch and May Tests tend to be a bit crap anyway, but why there's going to be more pointless one-day stuff before we start to see where the England Test side is heading, that is a bit annoying really.

I don't mind the tests kicking off in June. It means that A) There wont be any scheduling conflict with the IPL, and B) The warmer June weather might mean Sri Lanka perform better than they would in May, meaning we'll have a much better idea of where this English team is at.

We know where the England team is: it's stopped off in Shitville on the way to Abomination City.
Re: Next real cricket
Well yes. I should say, playing Sri Lanka in June means it's more likely we'll get beaten and the ECB will look like even bigger twats, and Cook will have no choice but to resign as captain.

Cook has done nothing wrong. Giles has done nothing wrong. The selectors have done nothing wrong. It's all KP's fault.

It will be interesting to see the make up of the two teams. Injuries aside, I expect English team will look similar to the Ashes series, minus KP and prolly the unfortunate Carbs. What are the chances of Prior getting his spot back?

Re: Next real cricket
Well, knowing how the selectors work (viz., job for the 'kiss-arse' boys) - it looks good for Prior having scored a ton for Sussex against a luke warm Middlesex in the CC down at Hove - where Huck took 8 fer 60.horace wrote:Henry wrote:I don't mind the tests kicking off in June. Unforch Huck will have to wait his turn, having railed against the selectors after being sent home from Aus without playing a serious game, so unless and until he produces an A4 sheet with "I must not say bad things about the England test selectors" written big and bold 100 times, he doesn't look like getting a gig for awhile yet.

Meh. I have a feeling that there is a fair bit of match fixing in that sport.

I'm interested enough, but the WI are as big a rabble as England. The Snoozies to win it.

Yeah, good point. Which it will be.
Should be an entertaining series, then. Full of inept cricket.

Re: Next real cricket
Yeah, not while "good team man" Bresnan is still taking a few wickets at an average below 40 and chipping in with the occasional 30 or so with the bat at number 8. And maybe even taking a catch, if it's really easy. He's undroppable.Merlin wrote:Well, knowing how the selectors work (viz., job for the 'kiss-arse' boys) - it looks good for Prior having scored a ton for Sussex against a luke warm Middlesex in the CC down at Hove - where Huck took 8 fer 60.horace wrote:Henry wrote:I don't mind the tests kicking off in June. Main questions are, do we play a spinner, spinning all-rounder or none at all, where will Root bat, who will open with Cook, will Trott be fast-tracked back in, who will replace KP... that's quite a lot of questions, but still expect the side to have a familiar, cautious, unimaginative look to it.

Re: Next real cricket
How long is Stokes out for? We look frightfully unbalanced without him. I would bet the mortgage on Robson opening with Cook, Root at three and Bell at four. Moeen will, I guess, also get the nod, which leaves one batting place -fark knows who that will go to.

Re: Next real cricket
Bairstow out for six weeks, that probably rules him out of contention.
So the last batting place probably between Morgan, Ballance, Taylor and Bopara.
