CA sells overseas rights to Aussie cricket to ESPN
ESPN STAR Sports (ESS), Asia’s No. 1 sports broadcaster, announced
today a new four- year contract for the exclusive rights to broadcast
Cricket Australia’s (CA) domestic and home international matches across
various platforms including television, internet, mobile and radio
covering the entire Asian region.
ESPN STAR Sports will
broadcast more than 170 days of live International cricket action from
Australia, including 24 3 mobile Test Matches, 48 Commonwealth Bank One
Day Internationals and 8 KFC Twenty20 games. In addition to this
pulsating international cricket action, ESS also plans to broadcast
Cricket Australia’s top-class domestic cricket, which has been critical
in nurturing Australian cricket talent and future international
champions, and includes popular tournaments such as the Pura Cup, Ford
Ranger One Day Cup and KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

I don't think our area is covered by the 'Asia' region :|

Fair do's. Just thought, having ESPN over here, that it may affect us. Hopefully not.

Agree. Best part of Sky is the non-england tests they cover in our winter

I think ESPN is owned (or part owned) by Murdoch, so it should mean Sky gets it all too...

Yeah, they're not bad, eh? Pity they don't lose more often . . .

To an extent tac, yeah. I love watching them lose. I loved Hayden and Gilchrist's bemused faces in 2005, Ponting's sook face etc.
However, I just like to watch incredibly professional, hard cricket and Aus are the best at that. We were good 2005 and it was a joy that we were playing in a similar style. Just makes you have disdain for sh!t errors and poor cricket etc. when it all goes belly up.

Don't you already have to pay to watch England?Batfink Begins wrote:Christ. Does that mean that if I want to watch a bunch of nasel, squinty gits that I have to pay for it? I hope not, I like watching them.

Given that this deal was inked four months ago, it would actually be quite funny if India went sooking off home and Australia and India had no cricketing contacts, because I suspect ESPN would have to keep paying CA for coverage anyway...

Yes, Batty-Boy was meaning having to pay a second time to see any matches involving Oz which we currently see with our Sky subs.Zat wrote:Don't you already have to pay to watch England?Batfink Begins wrote:Christ. That has happened in football where under "fair competition practices" football punters who used to be able to watch all football under Sky now have to pay another subscription to ESPN (I think) as they were given some of Sky's transmission rights or something. So a broadcaster's gain was the viewers loss. What a surprise.

No, Rupert is not the owner or part owner of ESPN. ESPN is owned by Walt Disney Corporation (80%). The other 20% is owned by Hearst Corp (mostly famous as the publishing co. of magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Seventeen, Town & Country etc).

Depends on whether you consider what some people post here in as English.
