Cop-u-lator Ipswich!
SO MANY people are being caught having sex in an Ipswich park that security patrols have been put on to crack down on the problem.
Ipswich City councillor Paul Tully said security patrols started this week at the Pan Pacific Peace Gardens at Redbank after the council received some complaints.
Cr Tully said a family had reported couples performing lewd acts on a picnic table under a rotunda in the park, while in another case a young boy came across a similar incident on a park bench.
He said the acts were happening in broad daylight at the parks, so the security patrols would take place during the day.
Cr Tully said Ipswich’s parks were for residents and families to enjoy, not for people to meet up for sex.
“It’s outrageous that it’s happening in broad daylight. There have been a number of complaints,” Cr Tully said.
“This has been going on for a while.
“I think it’s disgusting. What consenting people do behind closed doors is their own thing, but it should not be in a public park.”
He said the listing of the park, along with other Ipswich and Queensland locations, on a website dedicated to detailing places for gay sex meetings, could be a factor in the increase in reports of sex acts.
But Cr Tully said he didn’t care if the people involved were gay or straight – just keep it out of the park.
“The Pan Pacific Peace Gardens are a peaceful recognition of the region’s history, to have it used for this is disgusting,” Cr Tully said.
Ipswich police station’s acting officer-in-charge, Senior Sergeant Bruce Peel, said depending on how serious the circumstances were, people caught having sex in parks could face criminal charges and up to two years in prison.
Some of the sex-related charges that offenders could face included wilful exposure, public nuisance and indecent acts.
“Depending on the circumstances, there are offences for having sex in a public place,” Snr Sgt Peel said.
Drug use and issues such as peer pressure for underage people could be problems at the park.
Cr Tully said he did not know what employing security patrols would cost the council, but hoped their presence combined with more park patronage could stop the problem.
“It would be great for more families to be at the parks to help scare these people off,” he said.
Another site that he said had drawn many complaints was the toilet block at Evan Marginson Park on Brisbane Tce, Goodna, next to the Goodna Rugby League Club.

Oh - Ipswich in Australia. I wondered why there was no mention of incest in the original article.

For some reason I feel like singing
I'm on my way from misery to happiness today
I'm on my way from misery to happiness today
I'm on my way to what I want from this world
And years from now you'll make it to the next world
I'm on my way from misery to happiness today

I'm on my way to what I want from this world
And years from now you'll make it to the next world
