and the new year test v Saf in Sydney
Batsmen everywhere in Australia should be queuing up for the two games v the West Indies ... a great opportunity to find form.
I hope we can ditch Warner for good.
WI only seem to show up against England these days, whatever the format. Still our bogey side despite being shite for 20 years plus now. Carlos Brathwaite, Browne and Bradshaw, “Bob” Hope, Tino Worst’s 95, Papa Roach rolling us for 50-odd… even letting Lara get his world record back in the one series we won over there! I don’t expect a similar story in Australia.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
As far as I can tell, there is fark all Test cricket (Men's or Women's) until Pakistan tour Aus and play T1 at Perth in Dec 14-18.
Happy to be corrected.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
So it looks like the 1st major international cricket is the 50 over World Cup in India starting in early October 2023.
Looks like we'll be hearing crickets in here in September.
Maybe Trump will be jailed for breaching bail or sumpent in Sucktember?

We’ve got the upcoming Ashes Of Being Crap At Rugby, where both sides will attempt to muddle into a potential quarter-final meeting.skully wrote:So it looks like the 1st major international cricket is the 50 over World Cup in India starting in early October 2023.

On oval ball sports we sometimes disagree, but in this case I am in 100% agreement with Mrbucket.
After never-ending rule changes and fiddling, they've made Rugby more like chess than what the game used to be like in the last century.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
I guess professionalism has changed it, it’s all about size and big collisions, which brings its own set of issues separate from the entertainment value of the game itself, which itself is always a challenge re. refereeing the scrums etc.skully wrote:lardbucket wrote:Still not cricket. Still a million times better than formulaic five-tackles-and-kick-it league, though, and still room for sparks of genius from the likes of Dupont in the modern game.

SA are likely to send a scratch team to a Test series in NZ early next year, as YPL-contracted players won’t be included. Lowest point yet for the traditional game?

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
It seems that South Africa & West Indies are longer interested in playing test cricket.
Are Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe or Ireland interesting in playing test series in Australia? I doubt it.
Do Australian crowds want to watch Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe or Ireland playing test series in Australia? I doubt it.
The time has come for the Australian summer to be restricted to India, England & New Zealand touring over a three year cycle.
I also suspect most of the Asian teams (other than India) would be happier just playing tests between themselves in conditions they prefer.

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
These touring squads announced by West Indies & South Africa have been the final straw for me.
I've been waiting to see a revival of test cricket in West Indies for many years. Keeping an eye on new talent coming through but any that do will take the white ball route. Also, in South Africa, I thought they had enough batsman who could form a decent lineup in the future & they a number of quality pace bowlers but it looks as though they are more interested in T20s.

they might be interested to come, but CA won't want to take the financial hit. (which is why they keep postponing a series vs Bangladesh)

Re: Upcoming Test Cricket
Ireland to play Zimbabs at Stormont 25 July 2024. Ist ever test in Belfast NI. They were also scheduling a series of some sort with Oz in August, but becos they thought a crowd might turn up, they found the cost of temporary stands was too high!
