Formula One Season 2016

Further to my last post, I spent about 5 years on a display team. At one display, after the show we were back in the hotel that evening, showered and in civvies. In walks one (still in his flying suit) giving it rooty-toot about this & that. He'd be about half my age - had one haircut & two shaves since joining up.

Now, had I been in uniform I couldn't have said owt, but since I wasn't, he couldn't know me from Adam. Having heard him blowing off about being a bomber pilot, my ears pricked up and I asked him what sort of bombers he flew. He puffed out his chest and informed the bar that he was on a Tornado squadron. Don't get me wrong, Tornado was (still is, in fact) a fine strike/ground support aircraft, but .......

..... try and imagine the look on his face when I told him not to be an arse all his life, and had no fcuker ever told him that bombers have got four engines. My mates spat beer everywhere & nearly pissed themselves laughing.

My view may be somewhat coloured by the friends I have who were/are in the navy or army and were in the first few classes at our then new tri service academy.

They reckon they select the arrogant ones, train more arrogance into them and anoint them as gods on earth once they get their wings.

My nephew flies Orions and will be training the RAAF on the replacement after his 4 year stint in Jacksonville

He isnt lacking in confidence ...but probably not arrogant enough to fly the fighters (which was his goal for joining)

I think they were only down on the pilot trainees and (in their words) the next to useless, incredibly expensive, hasn't been used since WWII for a reason, fighter squadron/s.

Offshore surveillance and the planes that drop paras were about the only parts they had any time for. The RAAF was losing it's choppers anyway but who wanted to run the VIP fleet. I'm serious. They didn't event think it necessary to give pilots officer status as it was just another technical job. And the Navy guys thought once the subs had cruise missiles you could ****** the bombers of as well.

They were truly scarred individuals. Though TBF they weren't exactly strangers to arrogance themselves.

Tfft. Mercedes clearly not as dominant as last year.

And also for the fact that there is some colour back after almost everyone was silver/grey last year.

Vettel wins the Aust GP. DNF for Ricciardo. Red Bull cars look to be just as shyte as they were last year.

Ricciardo out early in Russia, too, but there's some interest as the fat lady warms her tonsils ... Bottas holding Vettel out with a few laps to go, may score his first ever GP win.

Bottas wins, Vettel 2nd, Raikkonnen 3rd.

Two Finns in the top 3.

Winning margin just 0.6 seconds.

Already a better season than the past five or six. It's actually interesting so far this year.

Lance stroll absolutely sucks. Got to be the worst, even among pay drivers.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure Alonso is now just looking forward to Indy. The Honda engine is basically the engine equivalent of Stroll.

Ferrari cock up the race. Hamilton wins after some help from Bottas.

Should only have soft, super soft and ultra soft in races. Even the soft compound barely degrades at all. Sauber had a fantastic race, as did Alonso apart from the opening lap collision.

Wow. Alonso fourth in Indy practice yesterday. Right alongside Marco Andretti.

Not sure there's much difference actually. I know you can use chopper fuel in diesel vehicles albeit you'll eventually ****** the engine.

Yes, the twists and turns may negate Mercedes' power advantage sufficiently that some other teams are in with a chance.

Throw in some rain and fuelling farkups and it could be anyone's.

Fourth again in practice with the full qualifying setup, and he's still only learning the ropes. Alonso's easily the F1 best driver around, imo. Shame he's had a shit box for the past 6 years.
