India v South Africa, 2nd Test, Pune, 10-14 October, 2019
What can the Yarps do to get more competitive? I'm guessing nada.

No ton in each innings for Roshit this time, as he is dismissed early by Rabada.

Pollock sez this pitch would remind the saffers of home. The seam movement in the first session confirmed it.
Only India can be so generous.

Rabada keeping the Yarps in it by the skin of their teeth.
I imagine Coli will have a say in that.

As usual no posts from Nigel in threads on Yarp Tests.
If he did bother to follow the Test, I'd ask why Tuneless keeps getting picked. He averaged 18 after 10 Tests. Is he selected because-
1 They want Mitch Marsh to feel superior to someone in first class cricket
2 he is a specialist fieldsman like Smith and will come through as a very good player given the opportunity
3 He was head Prefect at a very good school.
However I expect he is too busy nowadays reading Breitbart, trimming his neat moustache and cheering on Brexit, return of the Empah and worrying about the future of the Boy Scouts.

I gather Rabada got some reward for his efforts. India is in great shape after a strong Day 1.

Yeah, the Bannies seem to be heading for another 500+ score.
I haven't seen any of the Test but Aditya above seems to indicate that it looked to be a seamer's wicket.
Will be interesting to see how the Bannie quicks go.

4 The Yarps have a quota system for crap batsmen who hold down a place for years despite doing bugger all to justify it. There’s always at least one such weak link in their side, even in their great eras. See also Dippenaar, Rudolph, Duminy etc.horace wrote:As usual no posts from Nigel in threads on Yarp Tests.

Almost identical position here as at the end of Day 2 in Vizag.
Bannies (only) got 500+ and the Yarps are 3 fer fark-all going into day 3.
And we know how T1 panned out. Hard to see this one going any differently.

Now I will be criticized for woofing Tuneless. However his 30 improves his average.
In both Tests, the Fluffer has opted to hide .... erm .... to send in a nightwatchman. I guess he would argue the end justifies the means.

Despite some stout resistance from Prince Maharaj and the Philanderer, SAf succumbed for 275.
I suspect India will bat all day for a 500+ lead and give themselves maybe 2 or 3 overs at the end of Day 4 plus the last day to win by plenty, rather than enforce the follow-on.

"Look, if I could speak on the pitch itself, it was quite similar to what you would get back home in South Africa," Temba Bavuma said at the end of the third day's play. "I honestly felt that it was quite suited to our strength as a bowling unit.

I think BanIndia to its credit no longer dials in pitches that it believes will suit the home team. Coli has led this change of policy and kudos to him for this. It was patently clear on Oz's last tour there that he came under some media pressure for not dialling in pitch requirements and resisted this.

Looks more in favour of the batsmen, it's just that India's batsmen are better.
SA still has Theunis, but moreover Temba Bavuma who is only averaging eight for this series.
How can such a poor batsman survive for so many years?

Supreme performances this series. Very satisfying. Not great entertainment, though.
For the first time, I'm pretty comfortable in saying India are the best team in test cricket. Best at home, least shit away.
