Can the Ghanis regroup and show some more fight this time around?
Wonder if Rashid will be fit?

Afghanistan were going well until the run out of Rahmat Shah for 23. They are now 2/62. They will be helped by the return of Rashid Khan.

Probably famous last words but the Ghanis are going along nicely on 3-146 in the middle session of Day 1.

Is he the first player with his nationality in his name to score a Test hundred? I don’t remember us ever having a player called English for example...

The closest I can think would be Habibul Bashar but he was a Bashar & not a Banga.

There have been examples in other sports - Petr Cech, for example... obviously in terms of non-matching nationalities, Bruce French played Tests for England!

No.
When Jon Holland debuted many years after Bob, he was the new Holland playing for Nee Holland.

Meanwhile the 4th wicket partnership, immune even to the power of JGK woofing, approaches 300.

Two maiden Test centuries in the same innings. Last time this happened - Head and Patterson, 2018.

Afghanistan 4/496 at Tea
Hashmatullah Shahidi 174*
Nasir Jamal 33*
From the Cricinfo commentary:-
"Windra: "Is this the first time in a single day that county's highest scoring record has been broken?" -- I haven't checked but common sense would say no. It's most likely happened in the debut Tests for every country in the world (except Australia). But the last time it happened was by Bangladesh, when Ashraful's 190 was overtaken by Mushfiqur Rahim's 200 on the same day vs SL in 2012/13. But do you want to know what's even crazier? It happened on March 11!"

Ha!! Nice stat.
This might be interesting with Rashid to bowl with a 500+ total behind him.

Or might be the dullest draw of the year...
Double ton for Hazmat, anyway.

Can’t any groundsmen find the middle ground between motorway and beach these days?

Zimbabwe all out for 287, so Afghanistan lead by 258.
And they have enforced the follow on. That surprises me!
