...and congrats to all the Aus Day Honours receivers.

I see there's been a lot of bitching, moaning and protesting about this being "Invasion Day" (it marks the day of the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove and raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip following days of exploration of Port Jackson in New South Wales). I'm not exactly sure what they think they will achieve other to get some shit off their liver. It's a bit sad they are so angry all the time. Must be hard going through life with a massive lump in your throat.

But to each their own.

Perhaps that might elicit a smack down from some blowhard do-gooder, but...meh. shrug

And, just quietly, it was a cracking day in Port Macquarie. The water and waves at Lighthouse Beach were great.

The question came up from Charlie Pickering on the ABC (yeah Skull I know OK) whether Australia Day has 'jumped the shark'. My view is that happened years ago, with plastic flags from your city's SPFSP (made in China) stuck in every available orifice on (mostly) Utes and V8's, and small groups of bogans sucking tinnies around a 44 gallon tank with a fire in it (at 5 pm, during the summer).
Yesterday I saw none of that. I gather there was no shortage of the usual Culture Wanks, sorry Wars, chest-banging and hand-bag-swinging›in the media (mainstream or social bloody) for those that can't manage without it, but yesterday it was easily avoided. Although info about the new Oz of the Year ícould have been put more front & centre.

but if they change the date and we celebrate it, we'll all still be thinking "we only changed the date because of ______", and the problem is still there.
