Adil Rashid The Batsman
Could there come a time where Mr Rashid states an England claim purely with the willow? He seems to be a very good batsman for his age.

His batting seems to be maturing faster than his bowling. If he makes it into the England side - at best, I think it will be as a batting allrounder.

Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
I think he's a nicely balanced player. As a spinner starting out, he can't be a match-winner every time he plays - he has good and bad days.
As a batsman he's become very solid and consistant.
He's quite a prospect, as teenage all-rounders go.
Bit early to write off his bowling...

Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
Fark me if Schofield can still get a gig, then Rashid's a certainty!
He's young and generally bowlers mature later than batters.

He needs to be left alone to develop at his own pace. My worry is that he'll have a purple patch for Yorkshire this season and there will be a clamour to get him in the test side. I think the SA batsmen would murder him.

Yeah... to early. Let him blossom. He's not even 20... if he had 5 more years on the sidelines perfecting his game, which he wont, he could still easily have a 10 year Test career. As an all-rounder, he's coming along nicely.
Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
He'll probably be pushed into Test cricket before he's ready knowing our selectors.

Looks quality. If he can average 35-40 with the bat and 30-ish with the ball, I'll be more than happy.
How many young English prospects who were identified early on have properly "made it" though? There's Ian Bell.......who else?

Ian Bell? Yeah, he's made it alright. Just like Shampoo 'made it'. Just like Mini CDs 'made it'.
Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
Mini CDs? Do you mean minidiscs?
I think Botham was identified early on as "a prospect" wasn't he? He defo made it. Hobbs and Hutton too I think.
Come on you oldies, help me out. Which young prospects have truly made it in Test cricket?

Some bloke by the name of Gower - don't think he did too badly.

Aye, Gower would be one. Didn't he get his Test debut at 20? Shows if you're good enough, you're old enough.
Perhaps a bit different with a spinner.

I think Derek Underwood took a hundred wickets in his first full season at the age of 18 in 1963 and made his test debut three years later, but he was the exception for an English spinner.

Who was that young batsman who scored a ridiculous amount of runs for somebody somewhere?
Something North was it?

Dunno: I suppose the ultimate young-player-made-good would be Sachin Tendulkar.

Shampoo's been pretty successful last I heard. It's pretty much the only hair cleaning product there is.
I know I've got a bottle or two.

Shampoo were a girl band. Original 'girl power'. Apparently were going to be around for a while.
Minidiscs were different to Mini CDs.
Harmison was identified by Botham in 2001. He made it. Then lost it.

Are you in question answering mode?
If so, what's your opinion on conference pears? My housemate did the shopping and she bought 4 bags of conference pears on special offer. Are conference pears generally regarded as a high class of pear? I was under the impression that they should be sneered at and left for the dregs of society.

Ah that Shampoo- yes they did actually invent 'girl power'. They were big in the suffragette movement. One of them died when they threw themselves under the king's race horse and the other packed it in once women won the vote if I recall.

Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
Conference pears are my favourite type of the common pears. Their consistency is of the best calibre and their taste is beautifully sweet. Though I understand that they aren't the pears are used in cans. They're probably the closest thing to fresh fruit that you can get in a can, so other varieties should not be ignored.
Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
What are you saying? These aren't canned conference pears. These are the real thing. Bonafide. Naked as the day they were born.

I know they aren't. My point was the canned pears are one of the only fruits in a can that 'stand up' to the original. Maybe mandarin oranges and pineapple too. The canned pears are usually Williams pears.
Re: Adil Rashid The Batsman
Could be interesting if Panesar continues his run of poor form during the coming Test series with New Zealand.
If, say, Flintoff were fit enough to return for the first Test of the summer series (also against those pesky Kiwis), he'd have to bat at six, which would weaken an already weak batting line-up.
Say Rashid starts the season as he started last season with a *ahem* rash of wickets, he could get fast-tracked into action both as a replacement for an out-of-sorts Panesar and an extra all-rounder to bolster the batting - to counter-balance Flintoff's return.
6. Flintoff
7. Keeper +
8. Rashid
9. Bowler who can barely bat to save his life.
10. See 9 - but worse.
11. See 10 - but worse.
I'm just saying...
