Shane Bond
Seriously, the Kiwi's need to consider selecting him for their test team this summer. Yes, he went against the New Zealand board's wishes and played in the ICL, but that's what happens when a guy has a family to feed and NZC pays f*ck all to their national players. He's fit, in England, he's NZ's best fast bowler since Hadlee, and he's bowling well. Pick him FFS!

Re: Shane Bond
It's a bit of a joke he isn't in their squad. Seems like the NZCB are just having a hissy fit over the ICL

Re: Shane Bond
The thing is, he says he got permission to play in the ICL from the board actually.

Have the same crap here. All the ICL players have been banned from provincial cricket.

Re: Shane Bond
Agreed that he should play, but how it's all panned out means that there isn't going to be a precedent set of picking those players. Get real. It's his own choice, he knew what would occur. The way I see it, he probably wasn't earning much without the match fees, he's knocking on for an out-and-out quick and therefore he's 'making his snaps' whilst he can.
Re: Shane Bond
NZ can't afford to leave out someone with Bond's quality through spite. How many NZ fans would want him left out because of the ICL? I'm willing to bet none. It's a ridiculous stance that they're enforcing and cricket is the poorer for it.

NZ might edge into an even chance if he plays and stays fit.

Yeah sure, there was an opportunity to make money and he took it. But the stupid thing is that the likes of McCullum, Vettori, and Oram are missing the start of the tour (Which I think is really stretching it), but thats ok in the eyes of NZC because the IPL is supported by the ICC. Bond is no more in the wrong than the other three, imo.

Yeah, but no one can force the NZ selectors to pick him.

One would think so, but the board refused to let van der Wath play last week.

We're appealing his ban in CC. Think the prob is his international appearances though I thought he's our overseas player anyway, Who knows...
Re: Shane Bond
I don't understand it all really.
Didn't Boje play in ICL yet he's playing for Nhants as I speak...

The way I heard it was that players with existing county contracts could play but no contracts will be given to other saffies who played ICL

And it was all to appease the BCCI.

Re: Shane Bond
Former South African all-rounder Justin Kemp remains hopeful that he will win his battle to play for Kent.
Kemp has agreed a two-year Kolpak deal with Kent, however the ECB have refused to register him because of his involvement in the Indian Cricket League.
However Kemp and Kent have vowed to fight the ECB's decision, with the big-hitting 30-year-old having teamed up with the Spitfires a week ahead of Wednesday's appeal hearing.
And Kemp is determined to win his appeal so he can concentrate on building a new life at Kent.
Kemp told the Kent Messenger Group: "I think everyone who knows me or has had dealing with me in the past knows my desire to play for Kent is huge.
"I have been approached by one or two other counties to play in England, but I've played some of my best cricket for Kent and Kent is where I want to be.
"I've signed up for two years and I'm already looking longer-term than that because I'm in an environment here where I can really enjoy myself.
"It has been nerve racking for me and I am disappointed at not being allowed to play, but hopefully things can all be resolved next Wednesday and things will sort themselves out.
"I'd like to think that me being over here more than a week ahead of the appeal hearing is a clear indication of how strongly I want to play for the club.
"I would never have made the decision to play in India if I had known at the time I was putting my career with Kent into any jeopardy whatsoever. That's clear with all my dealings, before I did anything I spoke with Kent first."

Well, uber crock Chris Tremlett has shouldered more overs than Bond has for Hants thus far - perhaps his fitness just isn't up to it.
