Hampshire sign Shane Bond
Here
Seems a bit daft if you ask me. We've already got an injury-prone fast bowler. He's probably still better than Daren Powell, though.
Anyone any idea on what Simon Jones's decision was? I think Worcs and Hants were both 'in talks' with him, but I never heard the outcome.
If Tremlett, Bond and Jones were to all turn out for the same team, and get through a match, then it would almost certainly be an indication that the end of days was nigh and we might as well go to our dooms in an orgy of fornication and county cricket.

Jonah signed for Worcestershire. So far so good - he's been practicing with the rest of the squad, and is looking ok.
Oddly enough, we were after Bond as our overseas player - for the whole season. I had a gut feeling, however, that he might be tempted by the offer of a shorter commitment.
Good luck with him - you're the third county to sign him. If you can actually get him out on to the park - that's more than the other two counties managed!

If they were all fit, it'd be an awesome attack. A tall, accurate bowler (Tremlett), a world class quick who's one of the fastest around (Bond), a quality swing bowler who can be devastating in English conditions (Jones) and Shane Warne.
It'd be pretty hard not to win the division if they all played every game.
How many games will Warne miss? Will Carberry get a decent run after his stunning form for the Lions?

Warne will be gone for ages. About the first half of the season.

And Carbs has been a first teamer for a while now. Topped the averages last season: 1067 runs @ 50.80 (5x100, 3x50).

I was having the same thoughts when we were after Bond - him and Jonah opening, Kabir and Mason to pick up the tail. Hey ho, back to the drawing board.

Warne's not coming till after the Twenty20, apparently. Poker would seem to be a greater priority for him than winning the county championship. Still, we're lucky to have him at all, so I can't be too harsh on the bloke.

He sounds like he's the goods. Anyone seen him play? Right hander? Back footer or front footer? Basher or defender? Technically sound? Good against spin (I'd presume playing with Warne helps)? Good against pace?
I need the info! Could see him and Strauss atop the order.

He's a quite attacking lefty. I can't really elucidate on that, though, as most of the time I spent at the Rose Bowl last summer passed in a quite pleasant drunken haze.

He's a lefthander - can't say I've seen that much of him tbh.

What sort of scale is 'looking ok' on though?
The televised games at the back end of last season he looked sh!t scared running in.

Only going by Bumpy's words - he's practicing and the ball is coming out ok. Don't go counting chickens though - we've been told that Jonah's fitness will have to be managed

Why? Have you seen him play?
Is he any good in the field? I want to know everything there is to know about Carberry.

Absolutely electric outfielder. Quick and athletic with a good arm.

Also bowls fairly average off-breaks, if I remember correctly.

As Winkle Spinner says he's probably the quickest fielder on the county circuit. And yes i've seen him play 7-8 times on TV.
Better against pace, likes the ball coming on to him.

I just google-imaged him and had one of those "I didn't realise he was black" moments.
There's not many black opening batsman in county cricket is there?

Seems to have done alright in India. Must have come across a few decent spinners there.

So where does Carberry fit into the scheme of things then? He might get a gig in 20/20 bunfight, particularly if his fielding is sh1t-hot. But either Cook or Mustard will have to make way for him to get a 50 over match.
And I still haven't given up on Trescothick.

I thought he was a decent county bat and no more really. Difficult to tell...

There are very few black players in county cricket these days full stop. Compared to the late 1980's when county cricket was full of black players.
It's obvious why it's happened though

I would rather wait for the likes of Denly, Godleman and Moeen Ali to make a case for selection. Admittedly Denly has a head start.
