Fallacies of modern test cricket Empty Fallacies of modern test cricket

Post by taipan Thu 22 May 2008, 10:48

1. You ust have a left/right opening partnership
2. You must have an allrounder, even if he is a bits and pieces player.
3. You must have 5 bowlers.
4. You must have a wicketkeeper who can bat.

Any more?

Your best attacking player needs to play in a more reserved manner.

You don't need a good spin bowler in your team.

Your main strike bowler will see the test series through without getting injured.

You don't need two squads worth of fast bowlers on a test tour.

Your best batsman will have a good series.

Your tailenders won't apply themselves better than your top order.

Averages 42 - which if you look around is quite amazing. Furthermore, runs against Bangladesh count the same as runs against a good team.

A team with an average age of 30 is a 'young side'.

Your pacers should sacrifice their pace for pin-point accuracy - personally, this infuriates me no end.

Well both would be nice but if you can only have one, you go for pinpoint accuracy every time. Otherwise you end up with Harmy, Sami or Lee mark one as opposed to McGrath or Asif.

Bowlers struggle to adjust to left/right combinations.

The next time I heard a commentator pontificate on this, there is a distinct possiblity of something going through my TV screen.

Your quicks only need pace and bounce, ideally directed four yards wide, away from the batsman. And if you're a bowler, you don't need to be able to hit the stumps of a no.11 with a straight ball Embarassed

You can build and rebuild a side using the same group of players that have been playing for almost 4 years collectively!

No, for people who have pace, you end up with Munaf Patel, when they lose it.
