Justin Langer interview Empty Justin Langer interview

Post by Geoffrey Trueman Thu 05 Jun 2008, 01:25

It was interesting hearing him talking on Sky today 'bigging up' our domestic game. What was more interesting though was hearing Adams, Fulton and Key saying County Championship cricket is currently as good as it's going to get due to the IPL snapping up all the best foreign internationals and Kolpaks which would lead to a steady decline in the standard of county cricket that 4/5 years down the line would see the game inundated with mediocre kolpak players.

On a lighter note, following on from this conversation Messrs Adams, Fulton and Key talked about ways of improving the county game. This included reducing the amount of teams, and, as David Fulton suggested, getting rid of the perennial 'deadwood' found at the bottom of division 2. I immediately thought that sounded like a good name for a team, the Derbyshire Deadwoods, sounds kinda funky, don't it?

David Fulton is an ass. If Kent were at the bottom of Div 2 he would not say anything of the sort.

I thought Keny was a good film.

Can't think what connection it has to county cricket though, except for the absolutely Benny Hill obvious....

Waste of time talking about reducing the number of teams.

It ain't going to happen

Get over it

Move on.

bas is right...when it comes to CC ...it is a case of move on - nothing to see here....

personally though I think dumping a few teams would be like consigning the royal albert hall to the dustbin of history...I grew ap in Oz fully aware of the county comp. and know enough to realise that history and tradition cannot be readily dispensed with - even the derby deadwoods

It's not the number of teams, it's the amount of cricket played. This has to be spelt out in words of one syllable to some people.

here each State team has just 10x4 day matches and 10 1 dayers...they keep fairly fresh and the matches are incredibly competitive

It would appear that there is going to be a marketing exercise conducted at 20/20 games asking if peopele would like to see more 20/20 games. Gee Wizz, I wonder what the answer wil be?!

County Chief Execs. would probably sacrifice the FPT (50 overs) because it does not pull in the punters. But, that is the currency as far as ODIs is concerned.

My guess is that the Pro40 will go in favour of an enlarged 20/20 league which will involve some IPL teams.

Isn't there another 3 to 4 months of CC still to go this season ?

The IPL is over ...so any International or Kolpaks who were in the IPL are available to play the rest of the season

Yeah, saw the interview - interesting hearing that his first spell in county cricket and this current one is like chalk and cheese in standard.

Derbyshire Deadwoods, I loikes it.

Why do we need to have both 40 over and 50 over competitions. Along with T20, that's way too much OD stuff. I think they should drop the Pro40, it's not like there's an international version so why does it need to be played?

The Pro40 does seem like a complete waste given there is no international version but maybe it is a decent comprimise between the apparent tedium of 50 overs and the chaos of the T20.

What sort of scores are good for 40 overs. I would have thought 250+ is competitive.

We need to Fark off FCC as the top of the game, and get in a regional comp!

The pointless duffers who only love their shoity counties can still go down with their dogs and sit in the stands on their owns, whilst the cream can be playing for England places in a regional comp.
