Which browser do you use and why?

For me, it's Firefox - got sick and tired of Internet Explorer crashing all the time and playing Big Brother when I tried to download updates.

IE came with the computer and I haven't been arsed to do anything about it thus far.

Crashes every other day, but only about once.

I can live with that - it's not like I'm perfect either. Sometimes I leave the toilet seat up.

We get along fine - the archetypal odd-couple.

I use firefox - it hardly ever crashes. IE OTOH is very dependent on Windows stability, and if the windows isn't updated to latest spec then IE will crash sooner than later.

The ultimate browser and platform for me is Mac OSX and Safari. They NEVER crash.

IE was okay for years, but it ended up less like leaving the toilet seat up after finishing than like leaving the toilet lid down before starting.

Firefox on Linux. Firefox on Windows works like a marvel too.

Firefox, of course. It's free, efficient, reliable and free. And some of the Add-ons are grouse.

Firefox, for the same reason as you Mynah.

I try to use most brwosers out there.

Firefox - favourite.
But also use IE, Netscape, Opera, Safari and Avant browsers. Also have Fiefox portable which I carry arround me with all my bookmarks etc in it and it helps me to surf on the go. Only disdavantage of Firefox is that certain websites are designed for only IE and when you try them with any others they don't work as good!

I use the supermarket browser. I usually go up there when I feel like it, pick things up, look at them, then shake my head and put it down. Conversely, I may nod and lob it in the trolley.

why do you need deals of the week or manager's specials when you can get them for free using all kinds of loophole online vouchers?? for example I have been renting out free dvds for the last two years from lovefilm and the fools even gave me a free sat nav simply because I introduced 20 people to the scam! Or that time when sainsbury's gave me 1 month's worth of free shopping because I threatened to take them to court because they wouldn't honour the voucher they sent me! that's manager's special I tell you!

A lot of people I know get stuff for complaining. I just find it too much rigmarole. Fair play to you though. Sounds like you've got a good thing going.

I use Opera because:

- it's faster than both IE and FX
- it uses less memory and doesn't have memory leaks like Firefox
- has more features than most browsers out of the box
- it's more secure than IE and FX
- it's just better

Opera depends on Windows Platform and some components are shared with IE.

That makes it temperamental. I have tried Opera on both Windows and MacOSX, both have crashed.

I heard that Opera on Mac isn't as good. But i'm pretty sure it doesn't share any components of IE.

I have Firefox, but I just use IE because it is handily placed on my toolbar.

You do know that you can change what's on your toolbar don't you? Click on the little arrow, find firefox in the list and drag it down to where the little E sign is for IE.

Opera - 'cos it's the best.

I know. But that sounds like hard work.

Worst browser I'd ever encountered was one they used at the place where I used to work. It was called Netscape Navigator and the people who'd installed our Internet swore by it - but why they did so remains one of the most persistent mysteries of my past. I did the whole company a favour by activating IE.

Ah, those NN days. Apparently, at one point in time, almost 80% of internet users were using Netscape Navigator as this graphic seems to show:

Interesting - that graphic looks like a dead aardvark, and its sudden drop probably reflects my waning interest in Netscape quite accurately. Looking back, I am still puzzled about what people found appealing about it. Any enthusiasts here who remember? Come on, we know you are lurking out there...

It was popular before IE was launched and windows 95 GUI. Later Windoze made it irrelevant by making NN slower to operate on Windoze platform in order to popularize IE.

That is when NN started declining.
