West Indies Domestic Season 2010
Our FC competition starts on Friday and there have been significant changes this year with the WICB getting rid of the home and away system that proved popular with the players and replacing it with a single round system to free up finance for lots of A team tours. In collaboration with the MCC the WICB have decided to experiment with 4 day/night FC matches which will include the use of the pink ball (which the players haven't had the opportunity to train with yet because the WICB haven't ordered enough to practice with ).

wIFAN, how are the pitches generally for these games? Flat as the test pitches or a bit spicey?

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2010
Mostly slow and low with a ridiculous amount of spin on offer (more than the test pitches). So the spinners will no doubt dominate yet again.
There may be the odd good pitch in Jamaica and Barbados but they will prove the exception rather than the rule. IMHO it is the biggest problem we face, the talent is still there but the pitches our FC cricketers play on are awful.

Still, you should be pleased with the team that is being slowly built now . . . I'm looking forward to seeing the Windies play their next series . . .

WIFAN, the spinning decks should not necessarily be a bad thing. It'll hopefully teach the young fast men to change their line and length to counteract the featherbeds - making quicker pitches seem like a doddle.
More so, if you're going to have dustbowls, make sure the WICB read up on spinners. Fingers crossed they'll actually add a couple to the performance squad, and put them on the right path toward the Test XI.
While Benn has impressed in his latest Test outings, it's never a bad thing to find some spinners with a bit of variation. A leg-spinner or two (Gavin Wallace etc), with Subcontinent tours just over the horizon - might do the trick.

And speaking of the next Test series with the WI.
Seems that the South African's are next. A battle of the quicks, or Benn v Harris?
I'm trying to figure out which contest might be more interesting.

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2010
Tyrone Theophille is my favourite name out of the whole lot.
I agree to an extent, its just pitches with pace and bounce produce a higher quality of batsman IMHO.
1st day scores are in and they are thoroughly predictable with the spinners proving completely dominant.
Nikitta Miller took 7/28 on a first day pitch against the Windward Islands. Apparently he bowled well but there was some awful batting.
Jaggers took 3 for not very much against CCC, Imran Khan (leg spinner) took 2/38 whilst Ryan Hinds got 3/63 against the hapless Leeward Island batsmen.

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2010
Well the first round has ended and there has already been one shock. In terms of the overall standard of cricket and the selection of the teams it was an extremely disappointing round IMHO. T & T (admittedly severely understrength) played abysmally and were routed by a fellow Trini who was not even invited to the national trials.
CCC v T & T
CCC 234 all out (Omar Phillips 88, Romel Currency 44, Imran Khan 4/58, Amit Jaggernauth 3/56)
T & T 107 all out (Daren Ganga 44, Kavesh Kantasingh 6/29, Ryan Austin 3/17)
CCC 148/5 dec (Omar Phillips 70 not out)
T & T 124 all out (Justin Guillen 31, Kavesh Kantasingh 6/45)
CCC won by 150 runs
Jamaica v Windward Islands
Windward Islands 181 all out (Rawl Lewis 81 not out, Nikita Miller 7/28)
Jamaica 335 all out (Wavell Hinds 95, Donovan Pagon 56, Kenroy Peters 3/64)
Windward Islands 251 all out (Rawl Lewis 63 not out, David Bernard Jr 2/55, Nikita Miller 2/75)
Jamaica 98/4 (Brendan Nash 44 not out)
Jamaica win by 6 wickets
Barbados v Leeward Islands
Leeward Islands 236 all out (Devon Thomas 39, Gavin Tonge 32, Kevin Stoute 3/21)
Barbados 229 all out (Dale Richards 60, Kirk Edwards 60, Anthony Martin 3/38)
Leeward Islands 219 all out (Runako Morton 89, Montcin Hodge 55, Pedro Collins 5/36, Ryan Hinds 5/59)
Barbados 158/7 (Kevin Stoute 35, Shamarh Brooks 33 not out, Lionel Baker 2/35)
Match Drawn
The next round starts on Friday with Guyana v T & T being a day/night FC match involving the dreaded pink ball. Even worse, it is being played at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium, sandy outfield included. A recipe for disaster if ever there was one .
CCC v T & T
CCC 234 all out (Omar Phillips 88, Romel Currency 44, Imran Khan 4/58, Amit Jaggernauth 3/56)

Yep, though admittedly it is not just a single college, it is students throughout the Caribbean, many of whom have at best tenuous links to the University of the West Indies. They are basically the scabs from the last Bangladesh tour of the Caribbean and they have two of the best fast bowlers in the region in Bennett and McLean. They are also the only side that has a full time bowling coach in Corey Collymore.

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2010
Yeah we used to invite one foreign team each year. England A, India A, Bangladesh A and Kenya all came to play in the domestic competition. Interestingly only England A impressed, getting to the semi finals on the back of runs from Ian Ward (3rd highest run scorer in the tournament behind only Hooper and Gayle) and wickets from Chris Silverwood. They were only knocked out due to 2 amazing innings from Sarwan who had returned from Australia.
Skully, this year it's only 6 matches each because the WICB wanted to save money for an A team tour and a place in the under 23 development tournament that usually runs in Australia/NZ.

Stumps flying everywhere in the match between Barbados and CCC.
Kemar Roach bowling serious pace like fiyah.
Here is the text commentary from CMC:
Kemar Roach bowling serious pace like fiyah.
Here is the text commentary from CMC:
Roach though has blasted five of the CCC batsmen to bits. Had this performance been in a televised Test match it would have been heralded by all as unquestionably phenomenal. With the new ball Roach is quick and hostile but as the ball gets older he is lethal and deadly. The two spells - before and after lunch - were Malcom Marshallesque and that is high but deserving praise. Electric fast bowling from a youngster who set Australia alight before Christmas. And this kid does not only have brutal pace, he has cricketing brain, he knows what he is doing. He quickly adjusted his length and made the ball talk off the seam. No wonder Ricky Ponting - one of the greatest of all time - had such a torrid time against him. It speaks to his quality. Whatever happens in this match Roach must be the Man-of-the-Match.
