I always have reservations about Bowler Captains as a general rule. Let us see how this plays out. Also something like this shuts out Chawla for longer.

Chawla was back in the Q for the test place anyway (atleast I hope so), behind Bhajji, Powar and now maybe even Murali Karthik. He also has quite good bowlers like Amit Mishra and Pragyan Ojha giving competition in domestic cricket.

Don't see why Dhoni wasn't made captain, except that he has played only 20 matches, shouldn't have been such a big deal, his place is among the more secure in the Indian side.

So, we have Kumble as skipper of India, Vettori in charge of NZ.

FFS, for a second there I read the headline 'Kambli is the next India captain'.

Should have been Kaif or Viru for me. Anyway Kumble option is a million times better than say Sachin. It does complicate the bowling line up if we decide to play only one spinner in a certian test.

Why would Kaif, who can't even get into the side be made captain? What next, Ramprakash for the top England job.

pleased for the great man but not sure this is the right move. kumbles bowling over the last few series has been disappointing. but i suppose this is a very short term move anyway. laxman wouldve been the better choice but again his form is a big worry imo. wouldve been too much too soon for dhoni.

A bit of a cop out. Violet must only have a year or so left so the selectors are just delaying a tough decision.

But that gives Dhoni another 12 months to get on top of his job as OD captain before he takes over as Test captain.

yeah, dhoni does not seem ready yet, esp since his test place is far from secure. if he doesnt score runs in the tests vs pak (which he should) and aus (which is less certain) then he might be under quite a bit of pressure

kumble was the only option really. rahul just gave up the job, sachin said no, vvs is also under pressure for his spot, ganguly had no chance and there is no other test regular
