So the purdy colours on the pack make some sort of difference to the taste for you?

If you smoke skulls old bean you can pick up the difference between cigarette strengths. And you need the pretty colours to tell the strength, seeing the gvt in it's wisdom decided to remove the nicotine and tar strenghts from the packets.

The person who came up with that one was probably the same bloke who came up with differing rail guages.

Clearly I don't smoke, qmy (and I thought Mrs qmy was working hard to get you to stop?) but aren't they simply taking all the artwork off the pack. Won't the packet still say Winfield Blue or Red or Death-laden or whatever the strength indicator is - on a plain white box?

Would thought this was more reason to go on a ciggy-buying spree today.

"Cigarette tax to increase 25pc from midnight

The Federal Government will raise taxes on cigarettes by an extra 25 per cent, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has confirmed.

The hefty hike, which takes effect from midnight tonight, will put another $2.16 on a pack of 30 cigarettes."

My Mum's next door neighbour's daughter is a classic example. She's on a single mother's pension with 3 brats, struggles to pay the rent but is never without a gasper in her claws.

For some reason they no longer put the strenghts of the various poisons on the pack. Apparently to stop people smoking. So when the local shop runs out of Winnie Reds I've got to go into a guessing game to pick a brand with the full hit.

I would've assumed it was in the govt's interest to advertise low strength cigarettes. I'd willingly pay $20 a packet if the money went into non-smoking related health care. Guarantee you this hike is going straight into the Pink Batts compensation fund.

I'm no expert in the field mate, but aren't Winnie Blues a different strength to Winnie Reds? So are you saying the packs will not say Winfield Red but just Winfield? Seems a very odd thing to do.

Of course - the "Battlers" as my dear departed ol' man used to call himself all the time as he sucked on another cancer stick, drained a big bot, while cheering on no. 14 in the 3rd at Randwick.

I think ??? is talking about what happens when the Port Moresby news agent runs out of W.R.s. - he won't know which packet to buy as a substitute in such emergency.

Although I would have thought that given is extensive experience he would be well versed on what to purchase in case of emergency.

Failing that, just rip the filter off

The last 3 pages deserve its own thread instead of cluttering up JB's access to the latest epi review. Cool

An Elder with any balls would split the thread. Can that be done?? columbo

They don't sell light cigarettes or beer in Port Moresby. It's all full on. I was in a bar at the best hotel in town (mainly because it was just across the road from my house and there was a curfew in force and the security gates could be remotely opened from the hotel pool) and this old seppo was visiting. He asked the barman for a light beer and I pissed myself as the barman got out a set of scales and started wieghing the various can and bottlesw.

Plus B@H used to giove me free cigarettes. Fark I miss corruption in the third world.
