Best and worst forums on the web?
(Apart from this one, of course! @ Dello)
There was a time C4 was pretty good, before it turned into the School Prefect Arselick Club. Of the non-cricket ones I've joined, this is probably the best if you're interested in the sciences (physical, humanities, political, etc.). It's a bit of a hassle that they don't grant full privileges right away, but that probably keeps thousands of assholes from posting.
Among the worst was one Cricinfo used to have where every post took 24 hours to approve - and they'd cut it if it was even remotely controversial. Language-related forums always have at least one pedant who insists on correct terminology and on links backing up everything you post. (If I could look up the facts, why would I be asking?) In some cases, that pedant is the forum owner/moderator in chief...

Has its moments, probably its salad days are behind it, but I still call in occasionally. I can specially recommend the tennis threads around the time of Wimbledon and the Oz Open.

They used to have one called Black and Asian History (odd juxtaposition...) on C4. They didn't appreciate it much when **The Alien** posted on it.

Cricinfo are a disgrace. Even on their blogs, they simply refuse to publish anything that may show their articles up for what they are. They always seem to publish poorly typed retorts with plenty of agreeable remarks thrown in for good measure.

Grandstand aren't bad as AFL forums go. Most of them are a bit on the feral side of barking mad.

The BBC forums were hilarious before they were closed.
Every other post ' so who thinks Sachin is the best ' ?
Some farquars even used to post everytime a 4 was hit FFS

Re: Best and worst forums on the web?
Anyone ever belonged to Six Degrees, way back at the end of the last millennium? It was the hottest thing around, literally boasting millions of members - then one day it just closed down, no explanations, no chance to exchange e-mail addresses. It was like losing many of your friends in a major plane crash.

Pakpassion is easily one of the worst. Unless you want to say anything that doesn't conform to the moderator's views.

Apologies Nath.
Sadly some halfwitted Melbournite has managed to get himself into big trouble on 4chan.

So it seems the virus has spread far and wide in that land. Ours is not an isolated phenomenon.
