Re: India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 15-19 November, 2012
Considering today's events, my updated England XI would be-
Cook(c)
Bell
Trott
Pietersen
Bairstow
Patel
Prior+
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Finn/Meaker/Onions
Compton and Root are both out of form/not ready yet, so why should we pick either of them?

I think Dhoni will open with spin, Ojha most likely, pretty regularly this series. He hasn't been shy of giving the new ball to the spinners.Henry wrote:I can't see how they can drop Bairstow considering how well he played in his last test at Lord's PLUS his century in the warm up match here. I mean, what else could he have done to retain his place?? Also, Samit is having the time of his life in his mother-land against spinners and medium pacers on flat decks. He's almost certain to bat at six in the first test.
If they're so desperate to keep Ian Bell in the side, then maybe HE should open with Cook? He might have half a chance against the new ball before the spinners come on.

Yeah I can imagine that. Will they play three spinners or two pacers/two spinners?
Yuvraj may even open the bowling.

Should be two quicks and two spinners with Yuvraj as part timer.Henry wrote:Yeah I can imagine that. Will they play three spinners or two pacers/two spinners?

That's some quality knee-jerking, even for you. Two different sides in about seven hours.
Wonder what team you'll pick tomorrow...

I thought he was a Pom? Or is this a bad day for mother-lands?

Sehwag not opening in the second innings for Delhi. Suggestions that it's a fractured hand.

So Sehwag is almost certain to miss the first test then?

Word is that Broad might not be 100% fit. Seems like he hasn't been 100% since last year.

Onions for Finn, probably. Broad is most likely 85% fit, but do they play him like that? Or give him time to get 100% sorted? He's been flat since the start of the last English Summer.

Zaheer Khan apparently pulled up mid-run up, and left the field in the Ranji game he's currently playing in.

Chickens have already started backing out of tests 'injured'. These wanks never suffer injuries playing IPL and Champions League T20 and always get injured after the events when real cricket starts.

Zaheer didn't play the Champion's league, and Sehwag's was unavoidable.

But they haven't backed out of this series due to twenty20s. Sehwag's was a cut after a dropped catch and he's batting and Zaheer is hardly ever fit nowadays, twenty20 or not.

Zaheer just doesn't seem hungry enough, in the competition stakes that is.

Sorry, I usually put in the disclaimer, but that one was screaming to be left alone.

Zaheer? More like Za-fear of salad.
Yeah, it wasn't worth it...

Re: India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 15-19 November, 2012
I think the fact that Root bowled more of his little offies than SamPat did of his southpaw pies suggests England would prefer him to nail the opener's spot than Compton, for his added bits-and-piecesness.
Re: India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 15-19 November, 2012
Aye, I suppose we've got to squeeze Jonny B in there somehow, haven't we?
Re: India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 15-19 November, 2012
Root will be the English find of the series..
