"So here it is - Merry Christmas AT XII"
1. Marcus Trescothick (1975, Eng) *
2. Alastair Cook (1984, Eng)
3. Charlie Smith (1872, SAf)
4. Mansoor Akhtar (1957, Pak)
5. Mohammad Ramzan (1970, Pak)
6. Clarrie Grimmett (1891, NZ/Aus) - LBG
7. Hedley Howarth (1943, NZ) - SLA
8. Simon Jones (1978, Wal/Eng) - RFM
9. Walter Lees (1875, Eng) - RM
10. Tich Cornford (1900, Eng) +
11. Don McRae (1912, NZ) - LM
12. Joylord Gumbie (1995, Mashonaland Eagles)
Surely nobody will begrudge the promotion of the so far uncapped young Zimbabwean to 12th Man. A bright future surely awaits young Joylord, if he can only take the hankie off his head, remove the tanktop, and above all, get his brain to stop hurting.
I am not sure if #4 and 5 in the team will realise why they have been selected to play.
I couldn't find any Test players born in Oz on said day - or West Indians, or for that matter Lankans, Banglas or Indians (though it's perhaps doubtful they would recognise this team, either). Three born Kiwis, though. And four or five Poms (depending on national staus).
Has anyone got any alternative nominations? No, you can't have Flintoff, or anyone else, as "the new Jebus".
(PS: Looks like it's going to be a grim birthday/Christmas for Al Cook ....)

Thought it was going to be a team of Christmas-themed names, like Ian Bell and Jacques Rudolph...
