Legless after party
I'm surprised this one didn't get a mention today. Got a lot of coverage on the wireless as I drove north.
Man loses legs after hit by train
"A group of people who hurled rocks and verbal abuse at emergency service workers trying to help a man whose legs had just been severed in a train accident could face criminal charges, police say.
Inspector Christine George said there was "no excuse" for the behaviour of the group, who are believed to be friends and family members of the injured man and had been celebrating his 18th birthday party on the night he was struck by the freight train in Taree.
Police were called to the railway crossing on Bushland Drive about 4.30am on Sunday following a report that a man had been struck by a train.
The first group of up to six police officers arrived to find the man's legs had been severed and he was trapped beneath the train, bleeding seriously and lapsing in and out of consciousness.
They were also confronted by an angry crowd who began hurling rocks at police and the train driver, a 33-year-old man from Queensland."
-----------------------------------------
Allegedly the party mob thought the cops were there to break up the party and had no idea the 18 year old had been hit by the train. Apparently* he was laying on the tracks (another version of legless) and the driver couldn't pull up in time.
The 18 year-old party boy is in a critical condition in Hunter hospital and a metre shorter.
