Time to kick this dire year to the kerb. Millions slaughtered or displaced as reffos. Bizarre human regression to cry in the dark belief in religion.
Knucklehead fascists now run the USA. Locally red necked arrant cretinism runs the political discourse. FFS tozzies keep electing the spawn of a prominent Nazi family, our Treasurer speaks in tongues in his barnyard shed, our PM is captive to white supremacists, the economy is stuck in the septic.

Also slipped under the radar due to passing on Christmas Eve, TV character actress Liz Smith at age 95.
Her name in itself never rang a bell - but I've seen bits of most of the programmes in which she appeared. I was surprised at how many there were.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVI / The Death Thread 2016
I suppose most people know Fisher from her role as Jake's fiancee in Blues Brothers, but I liked her for writing the screenplay of one of my favourite films, Postcards From The Edge.
Fisher suffered from bipolar disorder but was diagnosed quite late in the piece: prior to that she was self-medicating with narcotics and not understanding why the world was so confusing. I admired her for her honesty about this experience.
I also thought it was refreshing when she told Oprah about her regular electroshock therapy and about how beneficial and crucial to her life it was. Hollywood gave ECT a very bad rap for some reason, in some cases portraying it as similar to torture or akin to lobotomy, but it is a fairly commonplace procedure without significant negative side effects, and thousands of people with BPD in Australia alone rely on it as a regular "reset", one of whom is my own sister. Fisher has said much on achieving a balance between accepting that a disorder is part of who you are, but at the same time trying to keep it at bay long enough to enjoy life and work.
She was cool, and sixty is not a respectable dying age.
"Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die."
"Acting engenders and harbors qualities that are best left way behind in adolescence."
"I am mentally ill. I can say that. I am not ashamed of that. I survived that, I'm still surviving it, but bring it on. Better me than you."

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVI / The Death Thread 2016
Not a good few days for the Fisher/Reynolds family:
Debbie Reynolds rushed to hospital after daughter Carrie Fisher’s death
Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds, the leading lady of Hollywood musicals and comedies in the 1950s and 1960s, has been rushed to hospital after suffering a possible stroke, according to the TMZ website.
Reynolds, whose daughter Carrie Fisher died on Tuesday at the age of 60, has reportedly been distraught since Fisher suffered a heart attack on Friday on board a plane.
The 84-year-old actress was at her son Todd Fisher’s home in Beverly Hills discussing funeral plans for Carrie when 911 was called from the house, TMZ reports.
One of the most enduring and endearing Hollywood stars of her time, Reynolds received a best actress Academy Award nomination for the 1964 musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown.
After Fisher’s death, Reynolds said on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop.”

The movie I mentioned before, Postcards From The Edge, was largely autobiographical and dealt with Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, always having to upstage her.
Also, Oliver Prinz von Anhalt has died. He was Zsa Zsa's stepson. So my pick (Freddy Prinz von Anhalt) has lost two family members in about a week.

Just reading about Reynolds' life - as we know, her first husband left her and her two young kids for Liz Taylor. But what I didn't know is that her second and third husbands both left her penniless. Hence she had to work non-stop her entire adult life.

Was watching fans gathering at her star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Was astounded to discover that Carrie doesn't have one considering some of the dreck that does.
