Overall country strength, test matches/50s/20s
As of today the three tables tell us the overall position is as below.
1/ India
2/ South Africa
3/ New Zealand
4/ England
5 /Australia
5/ Pakistan
7 /West Indies
8/ Sri Lanka
NZ higher than i thought and Australia lower. Pakistan equal to Australia maybe a surprise.

Aus position looks about right.
Our OS Test form has been tripe, we've lost most of our last 20 ODIs, and we suck at T20.

How are the three formats weighted? NZ a bit higher than expected, but overall looks about right.
India, South Africa, daylight, the next 4 in a close shuffling cluster, daylight, Sri Lanka and West Indies close together, daylight and light years of it, Bangles, more daylight, Zimbabwe.
Ireland and Afghanistan will probably enter calculations above Zimbabwe.

I don't think it is weighted at all...
Probably an average of these 3 rankings.

We're crap. Kicking England's arse on hard pitches with a Kookaburra and they have crap bowlers is something even Seasick could do and did.

I realise statistics can say what you want to an extent, just look at political election time, for example but Pakistan being number one at the very short game slews things somewhat. NZ showing well in all varieties.

Who is this Mitchell Santer atop the T20 bowling rankings in skully's link?
Have Mitchell Santner's Christmases all come at once?

Re: Overall country strength, test matches/50s/20s
I have knocked up a spreadsheet that weights Test ranking x 3 + ODI rating x 2 + T20 x1 all divided by 6. It gives the following table of overall rankings:
India--------------120.3
South Africa----116.2
New Zealand---108.8
England---------108.0
Australia--------107.8
Pakistan---------97.0
Sri Lanka--------89.7
West Indies-----80.5
Bangladesh-----78.7
Zimbabwe-------29.0
So whitburn's original table of overall rankings is pretty good, with only the Windies and Lanka changing places.
New Zealand 2 places above Aus (who are one below England). This really IS the mid-80s (except India has usurped the WI's top spot from that decade)!!

England---------108.0

... and my 'gut feel' rankings higher up correlate reasonably well with your calculations although Pakistan is not as close to the NZ-Aus-Eng trio as I expected, the Bangles should probably be grouped with Sri Lanka and the Gangas, and my 'light years' should be placed between the Bangles and Zimbabwe, not between S/L+WI and the Bangles.
We're almost at a two tier stage.

The T20 individual rankings tell a story of why Aus is poo at the shortest form. The only bowler in the top 10 is Fork, while only Fink and NoShow (phurt) are in the batting top 10.
You could probably say a similar thing about our ODI ranking.

Re: Overall country strength, test matches/50s/20s
Bangladesh certainly belong in the SL/WI tier these days, they’re a tough proposition at home in all formats, though still a soft touch in unfamiliar conditions.
Ireland and Afghanistan I suppose are now forming a third tier alongside Zimbabwe.

Yes, using the Overseas Quotient Correction it was 4-0 to India.
