Re: Cranky Cricketers
Uhhh, Lara, I think you'll find that's called 'being a good sportsman'. Ask many an Aussie.

Yeah - if you want a career full of success, you'd better really f*cking hate losing.
Wonder why there's no England players in that list....

Aye, under JGK's definition, didn't being a good sportsman involve rubbing your own faeces into the oppositions' faces until they cried? It was all okay as long as you won.

Aye, that was it. But as Jay said, because they hate losing that means they should act like that and it means you win. Nothing to do with their attributes.
Re: Cranky Cricketers
I hate losing therefore I am (world class cricketer).

They just woke up one day with those attributes, did they? It was just luck.
Perhaps their bloody-minded commitment to not losing is what shaped their whole careers, what drove them to go the extra mile in practice, to hone their skills, to push themselves and their bodies to the very limit in order to squeeze every last micro-ounce of ability out (rather than cheerfully settle for being a rosy-cheeked blimp plodding around the county circuit like a big gay bear).
Re: Cranky Cricketers
Sounds like you've been watching too many American sports movies. Pssst... you don't actually have to remember the Titans.

Ooh miaow. Is that definitive or just conjecture? Could it not be their possible greater natural aptitude, being as they're more likely to be playing summer sports for longer due to better weather, that their "national game" attracts a greater amount of athletes that're more likely to be lost elsewhere in the world? It's almost certainly a multitude of factors that cannot be contextualised as you have. But nice aside.
Re: Cranky Cricketers
Better weather? Than where? Shitty old South Africa. Rainy old India. The gloomy old Caribbean.

South Africa are similar to Aus IMO.
I think the body types do for India, that and a lack of sufficient facilities.
WI? Uh, they had a good team, despite the hardships. Those now? Gone to different sports, the current World Record holder in the 100m sprint being a prime example... perfect West Indian fast bowler in the making.

That's a bloody classic. I think "Part-Columbo" should be added to the glossary. Gold.
