Great comeback from India after the first test annihilation and on a pitch made for the Lankans spinners.
Viru's innings may well make an entry very high in the Wisden Top 100.

4 down for 87. karthik makes a mess of another chance, could have had dislhan. if he makes it to the next test then parthiv must still be ridiculously bad

Kumble is really going backwards with a bullet. He is even some risk of ending his career with a >30 average.
Not sure why he is continuing, he has nothing left to prove.

BTW - does anyone know the lowest total to include a double ton? This game must be close.

Current partnership 71 runs, 13.0 overs, RR: 5.46 (Dilshan 33, Samaraweera 38)
Any Indian fans out there getting nervous?

yes. one good partnership is expected, and this is the last proper sri lankan pair, but its hard not to get nervous. there is so much time left in this match that sri lanka can take a no-risk approach
funnily enough on every day between lunch and tea 0, 1, 1 and 1 wickets have fallen. the tumble of wickets seems to happen at the start or the end of the day

I think this match features the new record for lowest total including a double century (329 with Sehwag's 201*), beating England's 344 with Len Hutton's 202* v WI at The Oval in 1950.JGK wrote:BTW - does anyone know the lowest total to include a double ton? This game must be close.

Can't believe we came out of this with a win. We got bailed out by some brilliant individual performances. Remarkable win when you consider only Sehwag and Gambhir really came to terms with the two menacing 'M's. Apart from those two, our batting was pretty hopeless.
Bhaji comes up with a career saving bowling performance IMO, he had gone too long without doing much. Ishant's second innings spell was fantastic, for once the bowlers got their sh!t together.
Despite the win there are Still PLENTY of cracks in the side leading up to the final test which should be fascinating. This match was a real treat for spin bowling fans, I'm really pleased with the win but I'm still concerned by the lack of contribution from Dravid, SRT and Ganguly.
Ravan, you had an off day yaar, thanks.

Well done and congrats to India and especially Sehwag who I think won it for India with his brilliant knocks in first and second innings. A really poor effort from the Lankan batsmen both in the first innings and second innings and I did really feared about complacency earlier after the first test. Too much was expected off the bowlers and congrats to Mendis on the 10 wickets haul. This series is just turning out like the last one and I do really hope the result becomes the same. Hope the SL batsmen take a long hard look at themselves and sort their problems out.

Bit harsh on the Lankan batsmen who were no worse than 10 of the 11 Indian batsmen. Sometimes you just get beaten by something special.

So, the big 4 are safe for another series?

This is test cricket and with bit of good patience and skill you can accumulate big runs. It was a cardinal sin to throw away wickets like that especially in the first innings. Also criticism goes out to the captain for attacking too much in the first innings when Sehwag was on song. A bit of defensive field setting with tight bowling would probably bought the wicket cheaply.

I actually think this was a case of the Lankans getting it dead right, except for one man's brilliance.
Their pitch prep was based on the assumption that their spinners would run through India, which they almost did. It was Sehwag's innings that was the difference. You cannot plan for something like that.

got to agree with the above, a couple of standout performances for india winning it rather than a great team effort. expect SL to seal the series in the 3rd test just as they did in 2001.
pleased for harbhajan...with kumble fading, he really needs to become more consistent.
if india win the next test, IMO theres a 3 way tussle for #1 (AUS / SA / IND)

More like a two way tussle for #2 until either of those sides beat Australia
