Re: Four Day World Championship (Idea)
Good idea , Smerky
The main problem is $$$$$
The goldfish who pay up to watch T20 wont pay to watch 4 day cricket so the organisers cant throw the cash at the teams/players to get them interested .
Also as most of the FC comps are played at roughly the same time it means that the English FC teams are the only ones likely to be propped up with international imports so there'll be a few countriesbanindia that wouldnt go with the idea

Re: Four Day World Championship (Idea)
I don't see it working, from a spectator perspective. But I would be intrigued by this happening. As has been mentioned, it was only the ass-clownism and money that inaugurated this tournament. The Indians had the money, the Indians made the tournament. We all know that India, really, is a one-day clusterf*ck and hence there would be no funding for the tournament.

Well for one Smerky, why is the Div 2 playing off against Div 1 in the county game? Its simple - winner of Div 1 gets the place.
And for those Aussies waxing their own poles about Sheffield Shield cricket - yes it's the hardest Fc comp no doubt, but how good are the teams when they play in foreign conditions?
Are they going to dominate the top Indian FC side on a dustbowl, are they going to cope with swing in England?
I actually went to a game like that wayyyyy back. Essex v Vics in 1991

Re: Four Day World Championship (Idea)
Right then, so that's a Test cricket World Championship, a 20/20 Champions League, a 4 Day Champions League, a 20/20 World Cup every other year, an ICCCCCCTTTT 50 over jamboree every other year, the IPL, umpteen tests, and umpteen ODIs not to mention the odd international 20/20. Oh yes, and a little bit of domestic cricket here and there.
We don't need more cricket - we need more months in the year!

Scrap the IPL.
One ICCCT (50/50) every 3 Years.
One T20 WC (instead of 50/50) every 4 years.
Four Day Championship every 2 years.
T20 Champions League (possibly) every year. It's quite compact.
Scrap meaningless ODI tours.

All very laudable, but unless you get a serious hold on the amount of international cricket being played - utterly unworkable.
In any event, I have my doubts about the bums-on-seats value of any sort of Champions league whatever the format.

80% Test Cricket
15% ODI
5% T20
That's how the percentage of Cricket (per year) should work.

England and Aus. are the only countries that get anything like decent crowds for tests these days. Gone are the days when you could fill a ground in India for an hour's play on the fifth day. I would limit the number of ODIs played to the number of tests played in a series

The question is would Indians start attending Test Cricket again if they didn't have all the distractions of one-day cricket and Twenty20?
It's like a kid eating two blocks of chocolate before dinner and ruining their appetite. Who has room for meat, vegetables and salad when you've just woofed down two Cadbury Topdecks?
If you restrict the amount of junk food being eaten during the day then the kid will still be hungry come meal time.
Unfortunately, when it comes to cricket the kids have taken control and are now eating a strict diet of junk. How do you control a kid when he's six-foot-five, weighs 150 kilos and has more money than you?

BS Bas.
We had pretty decent crowds for the Aussie series earlier this year.

I'm pretty sure there'll be sell outs for the England series too. Especially with Pietersen returning home.

I forgot we held the Ashes.
Still, the "bull ring" test will be a sight to behold.
