Re: Hottest 52 match streak
true, but a gap of almost one thousand one hundred and fifty runs over the next batsman suggest that 2nd 3rd and 4th places go to D A Y Light.
The gap in aggregates fairly reflects the gap in averages don't you think ?

Re: Hottest 52 match streak
i dont think there was any doubt about the man who would be on top of the list or indeed the fact that there would be a big gap to number two
the averages would be more interesting for the rest. and it was in reply to jgk's question

Re: Hottest 52 match streak
ok, fair enough.
I'd imagine the averages will throw up an anomoly or two - especially in the top third/half. I'd expect some middle order bats to have better averages than expected with not outs (compared with openers). It's also a fact that players have developed at different rates - some improving with time, others beginning with stellar performances then gradually declining.
Also, bar The Don, whos hot streak was his whole Test carreer, the others have been cherry picked for their best run.

Re: Hottest 52 match streak
I did do some research myself on similar stats in the thread I did on the 3 stages of Ponting's career. I seem to recall that other than Bradman, only Ponting and maybe Kallis and Sobers averaged over 70 for a 52 match stretch although Sanga could join them.

Really hammers home the difference between bat and ball these days, other than the two greatest cricketers ever everyone in that list is from the last 10-15 years.JGK wrote:Here is my post from the Ponting career in 3 stages thread:JGK wrote:The only men (I think) who have scored over 5000 runs in a 50 test stretch (only the best block of 50 included):
