Probably, but Warne running up to him and virtually spitting in his face during the send off didn't help.

Re: World Cup 2011 (III)
I had this saved when I was arguing our dismal finals record at the late C4 that covered Ganguly till he was dropped in 2005, starting with 1999 when Azhar's magic as captain started waning after he won 5 finals in 1998:
* Lost to Pakistan by 123 runs, Pepsi Cup at Bangalore (d/n), 1998/99
* Lost to Pakistan by eight wkts, Coca-Cola Cup at Sharjah (d/n), 1998/99
* Lost to West Indies (replayed final) by four wickets, Coca-Cola Singapore Challenge, Singapore, 1999
* Lost to South Africa by 26 runs, LG Cup at Nairobi (Gym), 1999/00
* Lost to New Zealand by four wkts, ICC Knock-Out Tournament at Nairobi (Gym), 2000/01
* Lost to Sri Lanka by 245 runs, Champions Trophy at Sharjah (d/n), 2000/01
* Lost to West Indies by 16 runs, Coca-Cola Cup at Harare, 2001
* Lost to Sri Lanka by 121 runs, Coca-Cola Cup at Colombo (RPS) (d/n), 2001
* Lost to South Africa by six wkts, Standard Triangular at Durban (d/n), 2001/02
* Beat England by two wkts, NatWest Trophy at Lord's, 2002
* Joint winners with Sri Lanka, Champions Trophy, at Colombo (RPS) (d/n), 2002/03 [Match rained off]
* Lost to Australia by 125 runs, World Cup final, at Johannesburg, 2002/03
* Joint winner with South Africa TVS Cup at Dhaka (d/n), 2003 [match rained off]
* Lost to Australia by 37 runs TVS Cup at Kolkata (d/n), 2003/04
* Lost to Australia by seven wkts, 1st VB Series final at Melbourne (d/n), and lost to Australia by 208 runs, 2nd VB Series final at Sydney (d/n), 2003/04
* Lost to Sri Lanka by 25 runs, Asia Cup, at Colombo (RPS) (d/n), F 2004
* Lost to Sri Lanka by 18 runs, Indian Oil Cup, at Colombo (RPS) (d/n), 2005
* Lost to New Zealand by six wickets, Videocon Triangular, at Harare, 2005
A couple of titles more under Dravid I reckon. Add to these chokes in bilateral series 'finals' in 5 or more matches [3-3 with England, 4-3 to WI, 3-2 to SA, 4-2 to Pak all under Ganguly mostly at home]. Dhoni won a couple starting in Aus tri-series finals and probably against Lanka in Lanka I think. But between these is a tale of at least 17 finals defeat involving more than 2 teams.

Thank God the choking Ganguly era is past us!

Finally a look at statsguru gives a detailed clear picture. 5 wins and 20 losses [2 wins coming off best of 3 finals in Aus]. For some reason the url embedded in link didn't work so I pasted direct results url:

We are the only team that made any title win for snoozers possible, including the ICC CT.....

It's all ridiculous speculation and conjecture - it's a nailed on Eng v NZ final.

Immensely so, considering he's not playing.

Problem noted. O'Brien in for ten Doeschate, then, to be sure.

I don't like all these ball changes. A ball should be able to last 50 overs, surely.

He won't come off again. I can't stress how badly England bowled to him. It was textbook - if the book was "how not to bowl in an ODI". They followed to it to the letter, like religious fundamentalists. They strapped on the bomb vest and went searching for their 100 virgins. Turned out they were all Ian Bell.
Saffs won't make the same mistake.
