Britain's new hero.
A worthy rival to JGK.
Arise, Sir Henry Trevor de Mudge.
Oh, and well played Murray!

That has to be one of the greatest sets of tennis ever played - 2-0, 2-4, back again and eventually 6-4.
Scotland had better vote "no" next year, or otherwise we will be back to XX years without a British winner... at least I'm half Scottish so will still have a connection!

Wow, some of the best tennis I've watched in recent years from both men. Here's to them having many more such encounters.
What an afternoon, sun, warmth, wine, food, and a British Wimbledon win, all in my back garden.

Aye, the tension in that last game reminded me of the epic Borg/McEnroe tiebreak.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread - anyone for tennis?
For a while it looked like he might not win a Slam, now he has two including the big one. Every chance he will win a few more now. Not sure he will ever get the French even if Nadal doesn't have much more tennis left in him, but any of the others at this point in time look like contests between these two. A week apart in age and nothing between them on the court. I suppose the only question is whether he has the hunger to push onto the next level, world number one and one of the all-time greats. It will be interesting to see how he recovers his focus for defending the US Open.

It's a bit of a British sporting trait to reach the summit and then descend into averageness rather than really push on to greatness. He'll crash out in the first round at the US Open. And no one will care. In fact he's probably won his last Grand Slam. He's bound to descend into a life of TV commercials, MBEs, street parades, relationship speculation, and celebrity Pro Am golf tournaments......

My tongue is firmly in my cheek. It's 3am here and I'm really tired and really should be sleeping. But the excitement has me wide awake.

Winning Wimbledon at the eighth attempt - only one player (Ivanisevic) took longer before finally landing the title.
Also, Murray has never done worse than the previous time he competed at Wimbledon...

the drought continues for the English in the majors..the grumpy Scot almost forgot to mention his mention his opponent, who by contrast was gracious and humorous in defeat

Roy Emerson?
After a bit more research, both Emerson and Ashe won in their 9th attempt and Santana in his 8th.

Wondered if that might be it, but Ashe did span both eras.

Well done the Scot.
It's been a good weekend and year to be a British sports fan.

As expected Murray won, well done to him.
Wonder how long it will be before a pom does.
As for the rugby and some of the pommy gloating, surely hooking up with some other countries they expect to beat us given that it's the fourth football code here.

The last time a Brit won Wimbledon, Australia came from 2 tests down to win the 36/37 Ashes 3-2.
