The Ricky Gervais Show
Anyone a fan?
Been listening long before the animated series, bought the podcasts and went back and listened to the XFM days.
Idiot Abroad was "alright", quite amusing, but I still prefer the 3 of them just chatting about any old rubbish.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I like it. I actually prefer the TV show as the illustrations are usually quite funny in the context of their chat. Loved Idiot Abroad quite a bit. Gervais' Brent-like laughing is actually understandable in ways as Pilkington is off his box, in an apathetic northern sort of way. He's a strange man.

Not only has he got a head like an orange, he's also got the f*cking IQ of an orange.

His head is strange... 'I love this CD because it's almost as round as Karl Pilkington's head'.
Re: The Ricky Gervais Show
I find the rivalry between Karl and Steve to be an amusing side story which occasionally crops up. Merchant is really funny though.

Re: The Ricky Gervais Show
XFM show is the best, the podcasts aren't quite as genuine.
Not saying Karl is a "Character" as such, but in recent years he is clearly happy to play the fool and exaggerate things.
A lot of the stories he tells from his childhood must be bullsh!t, his brother going to the shop in a tank to get a pack of fogs sticks out as one of those.
I also remember on the XFM shows he talks about a bloke called "Jimmy the Hat", Ricky asks why he was called that and Karl says he doesn't know. Ricky then suggests that perhaps it's an ironic thing like Little John, ie. the man never actually wore a hat.
Then on the podcasts, Karl again mentions Jimmy the Hat, only this time when Ricky asks why he is called that Karl says "Because he never wore a hat" and then Steve and Ricky both ridicule him for this, despite it being Ricky's explanation originally.

Re: The Ricky Gervais Show
Don't get me wrong, I still like the podcasts, have listened to them loads.
And they are 100 times better than the crock of sh!t that is Life's Too Short. There's only been one scene where I've laughed out loud and that was the first episode, and it didn't even involve Warwick.
They should have just done a 3rd series of Extras if they hadn't got the celeb cameo thing out of their system. LTS is so aimless and disjointed, it tries to do so many things and doesn't do any of them very well.
I'd rather watch "When the Whistle Blows", which was the show within Extras that was supposed to poke fun at how sh!t modern British sitcoms are.

Re: The Ricky Gervais Show
Then again, Ricky and Steve aren't always correct. [In the podcasts] Karl tells the story of a blind man who goes to get his sight back. Inevitably, there's a chimp knocking about. Ricky and Steve say that chimpanzees can't do operations because they don't have opposable thumbs. Which as we all know is untrue.
So sometimes Karl is correct in what he says.
This is my favourite Monkey News.
