Former India captain Ravi Shastri feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni needs improvement as far as his batting in Test cricket is concerned but said he is doing a decent job as a skipper in the five-day format.

"There is room for improvement as a Test batsman," said Shasatri.

"But as a Test captain, he has been made to struggle because of the inability of bowlers to take 20 wickets on foreign pitches. It has influenced the decisions on field placements and tactics. [Of course batsmen not scoring 250+ over 8 overseas tests consistently had nothing to do with it even when bowlers did well]

"He will get better as a Test captain in time to come. The job is his in all formats for some time to come," he added. [This when most feel his time is now up. But of curse he is captain of Chennai IPL team, owned by the BCCI President whose arse you lick to make money off IPL]

Shastri, who will turn 50 on Sunday, refused to believe that Twenty20 has had a corrosive influence on Test cricket and the players. [Thats where fixers and agents like you thrive financially - In the slime]

"I feel Test cricket would survive because of Twenty20 cricket. Twenty20 is bringing more people to the ground, more people to play and more people to spend time in front of television.

"The game would have shrunk to four or five countries in coming decades but for the passion which T20 has ignited," said the former cricketer. [I can't read this shit anymore]

However, Shastri agreed that T20 cricket has its pitfalls with the spinners not developing in economy-oriented bowling demands or the fast bowlers looking to bowl line and length rather than hustle the batsmen out.

"Young spinners are looking to bowl flatter and contain rather than take wickets. The basis of spin bowling is flight and the ability to turn the ball and deceive the batsman in flight," he said.

"A genuine fast bowler must look to bowl quick in whatever format he plays. He must do whatever it takes to retain the fitness and that mental edge. If it means cutting down on his engagements, so be it. The stress should be on quality, not quantity," Shastri insisted.

Stating that he would have loved to play the IPL, Shastri said: "The buzz and entertainment, on and off the field, would have been right up my street. [Thats why you wasted your talents of youth chasing Bollywood skirts instead of realizing your potential as a possible great all-rounder]

"An odd after-match party would have added to the thrill. I emphasise on odd," he added with peals of laughter.

Meanwhile, speaking about the future of Indian cricket, Shastri said that the youngsters must be backed but they must be good enough to replace the seniors.

"Virat (Kohli) has been outstanding in seizing his chances. Rohit too needs an extended run in international cricket. He needs to get all the opportunity. Time has come to back youth and invest in them. But they must be good enough to replace the seniors. Age alone shouldn't determine a career."

Asked what has been more rewarding for him -- a spell as a cricketer or commentator, Shastri said, "It's been a thrilling life. Nothing beats like playing the game on the field but doing commentary requires extreme focus. It's more of a mental than a physical demand.

"I have been able to catch up with most as a commentator. Strong adversaries such as Micheal Holding, Wasim Akram and Ian Botham are now closer than ever. Working with the likes of a (Ian) Chappell, (Richie) Benaud and (Tony) Greig has been a riveting experience. It's been a heck of a journey. It has given me the exposure to travel the world. It has kept the mind and body healthy."

Sachin has started having whatever Shastri had and has his money stuffed mouth frothing over IPL. I had lost respect for SRT when he chose IPL over West Indies tests last year but now the way he is clinging to ODIs and speaking about IPL, I am seeing him more and more as a lesser person. According to him IPL is good and one or two issues don't make it bad. Sure thing bro. Spot-fixing, match-fixing, money laundering, Investment of black money from tax havens, violations of foreign exchange laws of the land, players choosing club over country etc. are all really minor issues.

Even Ishant Sharma who is a nobody in this game is better than you that he chose to skip IPL to get his ankle operation done for sake of country.

Sachin Tendulkar says he takes a lot of pride in playing for the country. May I ask the great man what happened to that pride of playing for country when he chose to play a full 2 months of grueling IPL last despite having injuries and fitness niggles and then chose to rest and recover by skipping tests in West Indies? There is so much bullshit and hypocrisy one take. You may have done some great service for the nation in years past, nut off late your priorities have been very questionable [Playing this year's IPL again despite injury problems and risking aggravation in national duty in months to come] and forgive me if I don't take your statement about your commitment without a pinch of salt.

I don't grudge if anyone wants to play for money. Maybe he has earned it that right. But then these guys should be honest about their intentions like Chris Gayle and Andrew Symonds were who openly dropped their national team calls to freelance for IPL money. Be honest about your priorities and don't BS it by making hypocritic shallow statements about national pride and all that crap. Don't take the fans for granted mate? Don't at least insult our intelligence and respect that we have given you over the years.
