Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
We are screwed anyway
"Astronomers have used the Hubble Space Telescope to work out when precisely our Milky Way Galaxy will crash into its neighbour, Andromeda.
The pair are being pulled together by their mutual gravity and the scientists expect them to begin to merge in about four billion years' time."
------------------------------------
Live it up, guys and girls. We are in for the mother of all collisions in 4 billion years.
Actually, because of the massive distances in space, this collision is only likely to gravitationally shunt our Solar system around a little. The cockroaches still living on Earth won't feel a thing.

Might just be enough time for St Kilda to win another premiership.
Re: Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
Not sure if this is attributable to global warming or the impending collision with Andromeda but it's cool none the less.

Should I be more worried by the possibility of the sun engulfing earth? Or the fact that I'm having half arsed sandwiches more and more for breakfast?

That's 5 billions years away, t. The Andromeda smash will happen with a billion years to spare.

Re: Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
Some interesting facts for the Vulture, Flannery and other pie-in-the-skyers.
Electricity Consumption World ranking.
Fark yer per capital consumption argument, this is what each country uses.
Aus is at 222 TWh per annum, compared to the Yanks at 3,873 TWh, China at 3,438 TWH and rising fast, then Japan and Russia at about 860 TWh per annum. The CERN Large Hadron Collider uses 1 TWH per annum (about 2% of Switzerland's 57 TWh consumption per year).
Aus uses 6% of what the 2 giants use in a year. We are a non-entity in energy use in world terms. More evidence that the Vulture's Carbon Tax is NOT the "right thing to do" (her only enunciated justification for her massive lie) for the world or for the Australian economy.

Re: Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
Watched a doco on Foxy today. It's actually 7 billion years before the sun becomes a red giant and engulfs Earth. But the Vulture's Carbon Tax will save the world from global warming annihilation, so the last 6 billion years will probably be idyllic.skully wrote:That's 5 billions years away, t. Re: Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
Another take on the definitive consumption numbers from the table above (see linky). Aus consumption 222/17710 = 1.25% of world CO2 production. So even if the Vulture's CO2 tax made a massive 5% improvement to Aus's emissions (and there's no farkin chance of that), and assuming ALL OTHER NATIONS remain stable (China currently going UP at 9% per annum), the Vulture Tax will make precisely 0.06% difference to world man-made emissions. Of course, cows in India fart more than this.
Yes, I'm bored.

So, 3 billion years for it to happen, the odds favour being sucked into another star rather than the sun now. Wonder if betfair will be around then.skully wrote:Watched a doco on Foxy today. Re: Global Warming? Phurt, that's nothing.
Actually, Shit might happen way earlier than the Andromeda smash or the Sun's red giant show. Foxy History had a show on an as-yet-unseen dwarf star called Nemesis which is theorised to be on an elogated elliptical orbit that crosses the Oort cloud (at the edge of our Solar System) every 26 million years and sends a hail of asteroids into the inner Solar System. It is theoretically credited with causing a 26 million year cycle of mass extinctions on Earth. We are due.

Add this to Earth's reversing magnetic field, deadly gamma ray bursts from space, 1000's of asteroids on Earth-orbit-crossing paths, and the Vulture should just get on with trying to manage the country's economy instead of farking it with some hare-brained tax scheme.

First horace and now vikas - Skully is a forumming chameleon. It appears he has spent so much time here that he can drop in and out of other forummers' personas at will. I've also seen him drop in and out of Merlin, LLL, Red and Space Ghost.
There was also a rumour he did Zat once.

Hopefully Peter will be back, I don't want the infamy of hanging around with woody and taips - they drag my rep down.

If me and skully held that mantra this place would look damned unpopular.
