Dunno but on those figures I reckon he's got a bit of a future.

BTW - Hayden's total is the 5th highest ever (just 10 runs behind SRT's 1611 in 1996) and the highest but a non-Indian.

Having said that, Ponting's aggregate is probably more remarkable given that it was only 40 odd runs behind Mark Waugh's old Aust record for most runs in a year and he played 12 less innings. Of the people above Ponting on the most runs in a year list, only 1, Gary Kirsten in 1996 with 29 innings, played less than 30 innings.

Ponting's average of 79 is 10 runs higher than the next highest average for a person scoring more than 1000 runs in a year (that was Deano).

79? That's obscene.

Was only dismissed for less than 10 twice in the year and not in the last 20 matches.

I notice that 5 Aussie batsmen averaged over 100 in tests for 2007. Punter surprisingly was not among them.

Still, he only had 5 or 6 knocks in those 5 tests IIRC.

Shows it was just a flash in the pan all along ... like Sanga's current run, and Yousuf's in the last couple of years.

Hoggy's figures compare very nicely.

Hggy has the potential to be the next cult hero pf Aus cricket. Hopefully he gets a start in the Boxing Day Test.
