Australian spinners Empty Australian spinners

Post by lardbucket Sun 30 Sep 2012, 03:45

The revolving door has been discussed on a few occasions, but HERE is an interesting article on a player most will have forgotten.

I wonder who the Victorian captain was at the time ... obviously the young fella didn't feel he was getting much support.

A few other talents have completely fallen by the wayside, too ... Shannon Tubb from Tasmania, Cullen and Bailey from SA, and Dolan from Queensland; amongst others in recent years.

Do we expect far too much too soon from our young spinners, especially on decks that are virtually always designed to go easy on batsmen for 4-5 days nowadays?

Scuba or Peanut Jones would have been Vomit Captain around that time

Wasn't he spin coach for either Victoria or SA when they were in that Champion's league thing?

Well, to be fair, I think X was jettisonned way too early from the top side. He came up against a rampant England in the 10/11 Ashes and wasn't given much of a go.

He has good flight and gives the ball a rip, and if we can't find a leggie, then a LAO is the next best choice.

Good T20 and one day bowler, sh*t in the longer formats. Same can be said for most Aussie spinners at the moment.

Hey, you have Nathan Lyon doing pretty well. Granted, he's had most of his success in favourable conditions against poor players of spin, but he has character. Then there's Nathan Hauritz. Remember him? Still the best of the Aussie bunch, imo. Unfortunately for him he wasn't Ponting's best friend. But hey, Clarke is captain now.
