International Sporting Events Empty International Sporting Events

Post by Paul Keating Sun 30 Dec 2007, 04:55

One of my biggest regrets when I was in London recently was not going to see a Premier League game. The atmosphere I am told gives you goose bumps.

If you could go to one event on the International Sporting Calendar, what would it be?

I'm choosing between Monaco Grand Prix, Happy Valley Horse Races in Hong Kong, any test match in the West Indies.

One of the most over-rated, is the Bathurst 1000.

If you're going to the Bathurst 1000, the only way to do it is to either scam your way into Pit Lane, or pay for the best seats. Then it's worthwhile, otherwise it's just hours of putting up with drunken pisstank yobbos.

If I could see any game, I would like to see a 'hotly contested' football match in South America. I don't care which team.

North American friend of mine went to see a club game in Sao Paolo. He says he was glad to get out with a whole skin and unpicked wallet.

More seriously, probably a FIFA WC Final in South America.

A Lords Ashes Test

The next RWC final in Auckland with the Robbie Deans coached Wallabies pantsing the Blecks 51 - 3.

Any Packers NFL game, so long as Brett Favre is there and playing the house down.

An Open Championship at Carnoustie with Jack Newton for company.

I'll see you at the Superbowl then Mick. When Tom Brady and the mighty Pats smash the Packers. Payback for 1997.

A day/night ODI between India and Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Calcutta. I can't imagine a more electric atmosphere in cricket.

For the sheer 'over the topness' of it all, i'd like to go to the NFL Superbowl(Not international, granted). Wimbledon mens final would be up there, along with an Ashes test at Lords. Football world cup final of course, England v Australia/South Africa/New Zealand at Twickenham, Olympics 100 metre final......
