Samsung already tried and failed. It was a crap device.

Although, I guess it has one benefit... it could measure energy used in a fap more accurately than everything else, if one's willing to wear it on the wrong wrist.

There's another forum I frequent which had quite an amazing thing happen today. Some bloke was having a terrible time and wrote a message which was basically a suicide note, saying he had taken some pills and that he was "dead now".

What followed was pages of posts of people on the forum trying to track him down, calling the police, trying to found out family members from limited facebook information that they knew about.

As a direct result of this, police and ambulance managed to get to him before it was too late. The lad is obviously still not in a good place but has said he was drunk and has expressed massive gratitude to people from the forum who helped him.

Hopefully he is on the mend now. Heart warming to see a load of people who hadn't met him rally round and save the guys life.

The thread is here although I think they might delete it soon:

Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy or i-Gen attention-whoring gone mad?

"A suburban New York mother who blogged about motherhood has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for murdering her young son with a salt overdose so she could bask in social media attention about his mysterious illness.

The sentence imposed on Lacey Spears, 27, who chronicled her 5-year-old son's illnesses on a personal blog called Garnett's Journey and other social media, was less than the maximum penalty of 25 years to life requested by the prosecution.
...
Assistant district attorney Doreen Lloyd described Garnett as a normal, healthy child whose illnesses were induced by his mother, who eventually killed him by putting a lethal amount of salt into the hospitalised boy's feeding tube, all the while blogging and posting pictures to Facebook."

This is sad stuff, and sadly not that unusual, though it is more common for Munchausen's sufferers to inflict the illness on themselves (injecting faeces into their muscles in order to create abscesses, swallowing vast amounts of chicken blood so that they can dramatically vomit blood in company, putting atropine dilator drops in one eye then feigning headache and collapse etc).

Scumbags like this woman existed long before the internet or Facebook, but certainly her infamy will be more widespread than those of her ilk several decades ago.

am waiting for social media 'enlightenment' on the reasons why a woman drove her car (seemingly deliberately) into a dam... only one of the 4 kids in the car survived.

And A, mental illness and wicked evilness are not mutually exclusive. My youngest sprog is living proof.

This should excite you, skully. The Masters app is brilliant, but seems they wasted all their efforts on their app and the website is pretty shitty. The same layout but renders poorly.

It is sad, and as you say, Munchausen's sufferers harm themselves to elicit sympathy.

Munchausen's by Proxy is the harm of others, usually children (as in the case skulls posted) - and obviously generally within the family. We had a case 20 years back where babies & children were having sudden cardiac arrests or dying in hospital for no obvious reason.

An investigation revealed the fact that a nurse, Beverley Allitt was harming/murdering them.

On conviction, she got 30 years. She's held in a secure hospital, as the most likely reason for her actions is MSbyP. This is one case where arsebook & twatter wouldn't have spread her infamy ......... among female killers, there's probably only Rose West and Myra Hindley more hated in this country - and it's a close run thing between the three of 'em.

I upsized the monthly plan for my phone a few days ago (for more calls and texts - fark the data - Flaming Bails is shit to use on a mobile), and the lassie on the phone asked if I was going to download the app to keep track of my data usage. I simply said "what?".
