Cronulla Sharks' Fa’amanu Brown destroys iPhone in microwave

Cronulla Sharks young gun Fa'amanu Brown has become the latest victim of a recent internet hoax, destroying his iPhone by trying to recharge it in a microwave.

After a screenshot of the 21-year-old's Facebook status was posted on Twitter, he admitted the error to Daily Mail Australia - and said the mistake came about due to he and teammate Valentine Holmes fighting over the use of their one phone charger.

Brown has played 11 senior games for the club and is one of their most highly-rated young talents, but missed the entire 2015 season after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in the Auckland Nines. He played 11 games for the club in 2014, scoring one try. He has started the season in the NSW Cup for the Newtown Jets, Cronulla's feeder team, and will play halfback for them against the Knights this week.

He isn't the first person to fall for the lie about microwaves and iPhones mixing well together - the hoax has been doing the rounds since 2014, and has seen a spate of users cooking their devices under the impression that it would fully charge their phone in a matter of minutes.

Fortunately for Brown, Apple offered him a new phone - and it is a fair bet he will keep this one far away from household appliances; unless someone produces a pretty convincing video about putting your phone in a toaster to increase its battery life.
